Since my last blog I have been to a few FANTASTIC places. Firstly there was Huacachina, this was literally a place in the middle of a desert surrounding a small oasis. From the oasis when you looked around all you could see were sand dunes, palm trees, a dodgy coloured oasis and the blue sky. Also s*** loads of stray dogs who kept having fights and intimidating me. I had to hind behind Becks as she has her rabies jab so thought she could protect me. As I was looking around the dunes, trying to take my mind of the dogs, I noticed some people on the dunes with snow boards and thought god damn I want to look as cool as dem b****ez. Then we found the trip for me to fulfil my sand boarding destiny... A buggy ride and sand boarding trip in the desert. BUZZIN!!
The buggy looked like something from Crash Bash Bandacute. Lou Becks and I shot gunned the back seats like the cool kids we are and off we went! It was incredible! Wizzing round the desert, dropping down steep sand dunes and doughnutting at the top so as not to flip over, nearly bouncing out of our seats, just like a dodgy ride at the Georgian Fair. The view was spectacular, wind in our hair, sand in our eyes and just sand dune after sand dune as far as the eye could see. We then arrived to the first dune to sand board down, well I say sand bored, unfortunately because on my one snow boarding experience I was utterly awful, we had to go sand sledging instead which is obviously wheeyyyyy more hard core and edgy. So down we went face first one by one which the tour guide staring at everyone's bums as we went. We then went to a HUGE dune and being the daring YOLO gal that I am I went down first! Sooooo fast, sand stinging my face from the speed, I nailed it. And then Lou came down. She started strong, the odd scream but looked great, until at the bottom she hit a bump, board flew up a ft off the ground, tats bouncing... She landed like a bad ass... And then absolutely nailed her self by falling off the board and army rolling across the floor many times!! She then stood up and could have been classified as a different race from all the sand!! I was crying with laughter and all I could hear was the guide asking "she ok??"" Naturally I was laughing far ok much to answer!! She was fine doe ha!! The whole experience reminded me of Bridget Jones when she sky dived, gals flying down dunes shouting SSHHIIITTTT FF*****KK and the tour guide at the top shouting "KNEES DOWN, SLOW DOWN, STRAIGHTEN UP SILLY GIRLS!!"
We then got the buggy to watch the sunset which was out of this world and naturally got many standard pics of ya jumping in front of it. Looking like our limbs had been amputated or just like gangly shadows. Either was it was fab.
NEEXXXXTTTT we arrive in Cusco! First impressions are fab and they have no altered since arrival. The city is nestled amongst mountains, with cobbled streets and traditionally dressed peruvian women selling Alpaca products in the markets down every side street, HEAVEN! The hostel was FULL of hippies talking about energies (apparently I have great energy and vibes, I nailed it) and saying how they have been doing hallucinogenics in the Amazon to find them selves. One gal even saw God himself. Wow. We spent our days wandering around admiring the place and being tempted by the never ending markets. We then bumped into a guy who persuaded us to do a horse trek so see all the sights.
The horse trek was fantastic!! We went to caves, temples and just generally looked like cow gals cruising through the Andes. My horse was called Wallace and he was a bit if a pissy hun but I loved him all the same. We bumped into a tour guide who was Peruvian and once he found out Lou was Scottish he asked if William Wallace was her grand father!! Classic. Once off the horses we strolled over to a big white Jesus who looked over the city, he looked so G like "Yo Cusco, come at me, I'm ya man!!". We also saw some Llamas haha they where ace. It also came very apparent to us how spiritual the city and people are, it's actually really eye opening to hear others beliefs.
NEEXXXXTTTT our tour around the Sacred Valley and then we arrived to Machu Picchu! We got up at 5 and to the site to climb the mountain behind it called Wayna Picchu, my god it was hard work! So many steps and soo many Mosquitos and soo much steepness and soo much sweat and once we got to the top all we could see was soooooooo many clouds. I nearly died of a heart attack a few times, I felt like a fat kid at boot camp as Lou and Becks seemed to take it in their stride. However after an hour of sitting at the top of he mountain on some rocks and feeding some birds my Corn, the clouds parted and the view was out of this world, like you had woken up in Jurassic Park. We where in the clouds looking over mountains of trees and most importantly, the arciological, mesmerising view of Macchu Picchu from a birds eve view. We got lots of selfies and snaps then climbed back down the tiny stone stair ways to spend the rest of the day exploring Machu Picchu itself. When we got the the main view point I think we all just had to take a moment to absorb it's beauty and try and get our heads around the fact people made this site in top of a mountain with no machines or anything! Ones we discovered that only the nobles and the Inka (only the king was an Inka) lived there and that the workers lived a 3 hour walk away though the jungle but thy came to work every way to work just 3 hours then trek back home for 3 hours, I was totally in awe and amazement of what was before me. To picture the place filled with workers and sometimes to 1000 Llamas as they where the work animals so would carry the peoples trade up to the site, it is just an indescribable feeling. Also discovering that money was jut not a thing in that civilisation was really interesting. You all have to go at some point in your lives. But just remember suncream, I burnt again in a classic ginger skinned fashion.
Now we are chillin in our hippy filled hostel waiting for an overnight bus to Bolivia and Lake TATTAYcaca!
Peru has been absolutely amazing, going from beach to desert to cities to mountains. Completely surprised by each destination we reached. I even got taught the real life Salsa, I felt so god damn sassy but really I looked like a lanky uncoordinated moron, but after a few more lessons I will nail it. Now it's like to cha cha my way to Bolivia.
