Time to update you guys again;)
Yesterday I started my third cruise, going to Western Caribbean (Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios and days on the sea in between) for one week. The second route we do - Eastern Caribbean - is much nicer and includes destinations like Half-moon Cay, Nassau, St. Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk (always either Half-moon Cay or Nassau). The ship always starts in Miami and returns there.
I've been moved to nightshift and thanks to that I get to see some of the ports, which is awesome (only sometimes I have some trainings to attend, so instead of going out of the ship or having some sleep after the nightshift, I have to sit and listen to how to put on a lifejacket etc.
But I went out in Cozumel for a little bit, stretched my legs on longboard, visited streets of Ocho Rios, longboarded and jetskied in Nassau, longboarded in St. Thomas and took a 1-hour nap on a beach of Grand Turk.
Ocho Rios - Jamaica - quite a nice landscape, but nothing that impressive, full of weird people, who might appear to be friendly, but at the end is always question like 'can I show you something, take you somewhere, sell you this, introduce you to my sister, introduce you to my friend - she's very nice, ride your board, give you weed for free, etc… After a while I started being bored with the bugging people so I went back to the ship. I think in order to see something nice there, I'd have to go on a tour somewhere away of Ocho Rios (they do trips to the waterfalls etc)
Cozumel - haven't seen much of that place, but the landscape is pretty much the same as what I saw in Cancun (trees and trees, beach and trees). There is a beech 10 km away, so I am going to ride there next time.
Nassau, Bahamas - I really liked that place. Relaxed people smiling and unlike in Ocho Rios, they don't do that for money. I got of the ship really early (almost sunrise) and there was no traffic at all (it was Sunday too and a lot of people are religious here). I stopped into the church, I passed along the way, well, I didn't get down on my knees and didn't begin to pray (like Scott McKenzie would do), but I watched people to sing and read the bible. Funny thing was that I was the only white guy and felt kind of underdressed in my shorts and t-shirt. Soon they finished singing and started greeting me and with some of them I had a small conversation. They were nice and advised me where the best beach is, so I directed my board that way. Nice ride along some cool resorts and smiling people, some downhill, but mostly flat. I came to the beach, which was beautiful as he said and saw jetski there. I rented it for one hour and went all around that big bay. First to some old lighthouse or whatever it was, then to a beautiful nude beach (but there was nobody but me;) and then I aimed to other place where I passed some beautiful apartments with access to the sea. Now I know why Bahamas are a favorite destination of several Czech criminals after committing a crime!
St. Thomas - also longboarded around the port, but didn't go any further, because I needed to catch up on sleep.
Grand Turk is a beautiful beach, always empty, full only when a ship stops there. I bought a snorkel and mask and saw some nice fishes, but spent only one hour there, because of Crowd management training that I had to attend:(
Few words about my work - I start at 6PM and finish around 7-9AM, 7 days a week, so far no days off. I supervise cleaners from Indonesia, Philippines and Peru. On the dayshift it was 11 of them, at night it is 8 guys. Some of them are really hardworking, but some of them are bad, keep hiding and need supervision.
Also I take care of the pools - in order to empty one pool, I have to make three phone-calls, to fill it up another three phone-calls, switch it from 1 mode to the other is 2 phone-calls and there are three pools here. So I am in a way phone operator again:)
Then I have to inform people that they should behave in case they don't, so I am the bad guy:)
At the end of the day I write a report and mostly I fall asleep doing that after a few seconds I wake up and see dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd on the screen:)
Lately they've been messing up my time off with several trainings - went to bed at 7:30 AM and had to be up at 11:30 for a 4-hour training. Next time there was a boat drill at 11AM. That sucked! Last Miami I wanted to go to a skate shop to buy a helmet, but I worked until 9AM and after that I was too tired and sleepy to go anywhere. I'll get it next Saturday.
My manager is a cool guy from Slovakia, but it will really suck when he leaves, because there is one dickhead from India who never smiles and is very bossy, who waits for his position. That will be in a few months, so probably I will apply for a department change:)
I'll keep you updated once in a while (not that often, because there's not so much time to spend on typing).
