Arriving to Miami
I flew from Prague to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt to Miami and I slept half of the time, because I didn't get any sleep the night before. I asked for emergency exit seats to have more room for my legs. There was also 1 girl heading to Miami for the same thing (working on a cruise ship), so we talked a lot. We were supposed to go to the ship named Carnival Inspiration to start our college time. During the college time, the ship sails to its destination and we observe the guys on our position and learn from them. There are also classrooms etc. It is supposed to be the nice part of the contract.
We arrived to Miami and took the shuttle to our hotel. On the shuttle we met two other Carnival girls from Czech Republic and from Belarus. They work as bargirls and have lot of experience, so it was nice to sit in the park in the evening, drink beer and chat.
After I checked in, I found my name on the Carnival Cruise board and it was saying that I was supposed to sail on Carnival Liberty on the 19/3 (day before I arrived). So I called their office and there was probably some miscommunication between the Czech agency and their office. They told me to wait until tomorrow and then check the board again. That means I might not be going to the college ship and last but not least - I will go to the beach today:)
The scariest thing to me is called 'roommate':) Because when you live on the ship, you don't get a Kingsize room for yourself. You live 6 months in a small closet-size room together with one other person of the same sex and similar position you have. There are around 50 nationalities on the ship, that means 50 different cultures and religions. Of course I am not afraid that somebody would be sacrificing animals to their gods on my table or performing circumcision on me, but there are questions in my head like 'what if he sucks, what if he talks 50 minutes out of 40, what if he snores like a saw, what if he likes using other people's toothbrushes to clean his armpits... and I don't know what else could be common in the other cultures':)... In my past I only had a good luck for roommates, Alferd and Andy, my roommates from the times of my San Jose Farimont internship set the standards very very high.
I got a taste of having a weird roommate here at the Comfort Inn in Miami. Because whoever comes here for Carnival Cruise, lives in a bedroom for 2. I came to the room that smelled like cigaret smoke and a Philippino looking guy was laying on the bed in there. I let him sleep and went for a dinner. When I came back, he was awake, staring into his laptop and gave me no answer for my classy 'hello how are you':)) So this one sentence remains our only 'conversation' till now. Now it's 6AM and he starts to communicate with me:) well, it's only a loud chrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr pschhhhhhhiii, but at least something:D... more roommates like that:))
(the picture is only illustrational, I don't have blond hair, but I do have the ball and longboard) :)
After spending the day on the Miami Beach I found a letter at the front desk that included a plane ticket to St. Thomas - for the March 22nd at 11AM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Thomas,_U.S._Virgin_Islands) to join the ship called Carnival Liberty... More updates coming ;)
