I'm currently sitting in a bungalow in Mykonos a Greek island! It's absolutely beautiful here, like something from a magazine or travel show. I have been looking forward to the Greek islands since I started planning for my trip and they are already holding up to my expectations.
To get here Jesse, Jake and I had to catch an over night ferry to Athens from Italy. It took 24hours! And was not the most comfortable of trips! But we pulled through it and then had to catch a two hour bus to Athens from the port. First impressions of Athens were not good! I was scared even. It was mostly makes, the streets were dirty and full of graffiti and rubbish. It was not a place I was looking forward to spending two nights in. When we finally found our hostel we went for a walk around and ended up having one of the best meals of my trip! Really cheap Gyros and a tapas of Greek foods, as well as my first traditional Greek salad! It was better than anything I have ever witnessed before! Can't wait to get this version home to Australia. He next day we went on a free day tour run by a young guy studying there who used it as a way to meet English speaking people! It was the best tour I have ever done! I now love athens the history is ridiculous and the ruins are amazing I loved it! So much to know about and so much happened in this Greek city, I truly loved it. We had some great food and learnt a lot in this quick stay! It was our first taste of the Greek weather! And it was hot we were walking around in a burning sun and mid 30 temperature! It was defiantly a tiring day! We cooled off one afternoon in the coolest outdoor bar I've ever come across it was down a little alley and then down some stairs, you walked through a door and it opened up into a tropical garden with sand floor, hammocks, trees and bars dotted around, it was multilevel with lots of cool places to chill. It also had massive fans blowing mist onto the crowd. I loved the place, it will defiantly be a style I want to incorporate into my home back in australia.
To get to Mykonos we had to catch a ferry a few hours from Athens. I really like it here, it's got white houses built into the dessert like hill sides with blue doors and window shutters, the beaches are amazing and have cafes, bars and restaurants all up them. There are those straw hatched umbrellas like out of the photos I googled all those months ago, it really looks like paradise. It's a party island here though so lots of drinking and laying on the beach occurs, there's not much else to do.
I have come out two days earlier than originally planned so that I can spend some time with Jesse! So I have six days on Mykonos which is a long time to spend in a place where drinking is the main past time. We've had a great time though, I had early nights. The boys introduced me to a Spanish drink which is a coke and red wine mixture, it's delicious but seems to put me straight to sleep! I didn't have a night where I stayed up later than 1am, much to Jakes disappointment. The weather has been very hot since we got here, I've got burnt a few days, but the wind is insane! It started the day we got here and should last my whole stay, it's disappointing because it really restricts what we can do. Things are being blown all over the place and Ferries have been cancelled. It doesn't dampen the mood though our camping ground is pretty secluded.
Our days are spent chilling out on the deck by the infinity pool or swimming in the ocean out to a rock which is fit for mermaids! We eat really good food, but our diet mainly consist of Gyros (traditional kebab) because they are only 2.50.
I'm enjoying Mykonos, I have another three nights here I'm looking forward to getting back with the busabout crew and making some new friends. Jesse and Jake left this afternoon heading to Rome. I'm gonna miss having some company and seeing Jesse. But I'm actually excited to get on the road again and spend some time traveling by myself, something I didn't expect myself to crave.
