My Greek island adventure comes to an end tomorrow as I catch a ferry from Ios back to Athens. It's going to be hard to leave this beautiful place, I've met some amazing people and saw things I've been dreaming about for a long time.
So after leaving Mykonos my first island, I headed for Paros. It's a quiet island where a lot of tourists don't visit so it was nice to see a cozy chilled out town, still so beautiful and traditional with its white buildings and blue rooftops. I really get experience Greece here, the busabout your group head out for an amazing dinner or a secluded beach. There are hammocks and cushions and swings, we eat delicious food and drink by the water and when it gets dark we do traditional dancing and smash some plates! Things get crazy we are all running around holding hands and dancing in circles it's so cool being apart of traditional feativities. We end the night by heading to a cocktail bar.
The next day we head out on a sailing trip! It's one of the best experiences so far. We sail the coast line, stopping to jump off the boat and swim exploring caves and snorkeling. At lunch time we beach the boat on a private boat and all have a Greek BBQ. The food is amazing, there's lots of wine and ouzo and before we know it everyone is a little tipsy dancing and playing beach games. It's an interesting sail back to the port after the all you can drink wine. That night we go for dinner, more cocktails and then to a club in town. The night doesn't end until about three am.
I'm on each island for four days so my group leaves and I meet up with a new one. Most people only stay two nights on each so it means I'm constantly meeting new groups. It's great fun meeting people but a lot of work, some groups are less accepting of new comers than others so it can be tough. I have loved it though and the extra time on each island gives me time to really check the place out.
After four nights I leave Paros and head to santorini which is the most famous of the greek islands for tourists. Mainly because it's so incredibly beautiful. The town is built into the cliffs and so the view for the street and restaurants is ridiculous. You look out the ocean and see the other tiny islands and beautiful turquoise waters. The sunsets here are too stunning for words. There is a volcano close by which is said to have made santorini and other neighboring islands. A group and I sail our to the small volcano island and trek to the top. we then sail round to some hot springs, to get it them we have to jump off the boat and swim into them. It's such a cool and adventurous day. Santorini is awsome to walk around. We have some great meals at night and do lots of clubbing. One of the days we have a day tour around checking out the black and red beaches and some other famous sights and end the day with a sunset picnic. It's amazing and I got some great photos. I'm with a friend from Wollongong for this part, we had booked separately and then figured out we would meet up! It's so good to have a friend here travelling with me. His with two mates that I haven't met, but we all get along really well. They party like crazy though and I don't get to bed before 3am the whole time I'm with them. We spend the last two days in santorini together and then head onto Ios, the notorious party island.
We've made a good crew to travel with, including two girls coincidentally from Wollongong as well. After I get to know them we find out we've worked in the same places and felicity and I have actually been in the same course at uni together for three years!!!!!!! It's absolutely mind blowing, she's stunning I can't believe I never noticed her.
Ios is my favorite island by far, it's got all the beauty of the others, has a mad night life but also has things to do during the day. There's snorkeling and scuba diving and pretty much every water sport under the sun! I'm staying right on the beach is a little round hatched roof bungalow. The pool is like something out of a luxury hotel and the vibe is amazing.
The nights are so intense, we all party like crazy and I see the sun rise three out of my four nights here! We usually sleep in till midday and then laze around the pool and start drinking again for another crazy all nighter. One of the days Dan and I go for a kiaking trip along the coast line. We go snorkeling and cliff jumping and then have a BBQ on the beach, it's a really great day and I'm so glad I made the effort to leave the pool side and do some adventuring.
So now I'm sitting here on my last night, Dan and the boys have left so we can rest. Me and the gong girls head out for a Mexican feast and then swing In the hammocks watching to ocean and the full moon. Time really gets away from us and before we know it it's almost 12 and defiantly time for bed. Its great end to a great few weeks in Greece.
I'll come back here one day. I love it.
