Who is the guy in the picture? This is the nice guy who we could barely understand who showed us our new camera. Luckily we knew all about it anyway because it was only one model up from the one we had. Note the word had..... yep camera no more. Yesterday after dinner on our walk back to the hotel I fell over while crossing the road and mmm had to get up really quick because they really don't stop for people crossing the street let alone falling over. Anyway in my bag was the camera and so was a small glass bottle of a lovely liquere we had bought at the market. Of course the glass bottle broke and the camera got covered as well as everything else in my bag. What a mess!! took us about 1 1/2 hours to rinse off our passports (yep sticky too) and all the rest. Couldn't rescue the camera but lucky the memory card was ok. So after our tour this morning we had to buy another so bought the next model up of what we had so we could use all our plugs etc. Nice camera actually.
Am I ok you ask?? anyone?? lol... well a bruised knee is about it so yeah I'm good to go. So anywho on with the travels. Yesterday we arrived in Lima and are staying in the Miraflores district which is really well layed out. The whole area seems mostly modern and tourist driven. It has an excellent waterfront area chockers with shops, entertainment and restaurants. So we walked around for about 3-4 hours from one end to the other. In the main park there seemed to be a lot of cats just laying around. See the pictures. Apparently the idea is for people to like them enough to take them home but it only happens sometimes !! We had lunch (mmm sort of ) as in coffee and cake in a local caffe. Yes Jason cake for lunch !! (started the diet today)
Today we went on a tour into Lima city. What a difference from where we are staying. The capital city was a real mix of buildings, layout and people. Apparently it is not very safe to even hang around the park late in the day, and this was the main park in the city with the Presidents palace across the road (fully guarded 24/7, with big ass machine guns too ).. We went to a great privatly owned museum called the Larco Museum. It has the most important archaeological collection from the north coast of peru. This fabulous place had over 45,000 pieces of ancient Peru pots, gold & silver and beautiful gardens. (sorry no pic's didn't get new camera till after our tour) We also saw the City hall and the Cathedral were monks live. Inside are tombs under the Cathedral where they have unearthed the bones from over 25,000 people, the bones are still all there. People wanted to be buried there and did.
Had a bit more of a wander around this afternoon after buying the camera. Dinner and pack a light bag for a day & overnight trip tomorrow to Paracas for our flight over the Nazca Lines !! Should be amazing so stay tuned for the pictures to come xxx
