Neil's journey
08 09 06 - drunk.
09 09 06 - Don't ever go drinking with a french canadian, an italian and a geordie and expect to get up in time for the guide on his motorbike in the morning. I don't know, its shocking behaviour really, you come all this way to visit one of the most amazing buildings in the world (Angkor Wat) and then to shuffle around with a hangover, looking for someone to sell you Fanta and crisps.
Despite this, it is a truly amazing place - just the size of it is incredible. The only downside is the amount of PEOPLE. Getting shoved out of the way by 80 year old Korean women in one piece jump-suits and trainers takes the gloss off a little - the steps up to some of the temples are incredibly steep and dangerous though so there's karma for you.
Not that its seems to stop them, I really think we live in a very safety conscious society you know - you wouldn't get me going up some of those steps and if it was the UK it would be cordened off, there would be notices, security staff and the St John's ambulance on hand. I think we spoil a lot of sights because of this concern about safety. Its the same with the roads, no helmets, four to a scooter seems obligatory - I actually saw three on a bike today including a baby hanging off the back, ASLEEP - its so totally different.
Anyway, I think the man wants to shut the internet cafe so I'll update again tomorrow.
