Auckland was a very chilled out couple of days for us. We had to drive back down from the Bay of Islands so didn't arrive until lunch. We parked in the city centre, which was of course a nightmare, and found a small cafe for some food. After that we spent the afternoon wandering around the city and shopping. As a city, and especially after the likes of Sydney and Melbourne, I wasn't overly impressed. It was a bit dull and there wasn't masses to do... It just seemed a bit outdated almost? But like I said, we had just spent a fair amount of time in some fabulous cities in Australia so maybe that effected my judgement. Our B&B however was lovely! It was very chic and luxurious, yet had a homey comfortable feel to it. The owners were lovely as well. Great hospitality makes a difference! We have found over in New Zealand in general people are very friendly and helpful, which is nice and refreshing. That evening we went out for dinner at an Italian restaurant, supposedly the best in the city!
The next morning was fairly leisurely, we had a beautiful breakfast at the B&B before heading out to a nearby shopping centre to get some essentials. That afternoon we visited Eden Park, home of the All Blacks! So that was pretty cool to see especially as I'm a big rugby fan! We then went up to Mount Eden itself which is a big extinct volcano right in the middle of the city. Auckland has the most volcanos surrounding it than any other city in the world! Eek, let's hope they are extinct... So we walked around the crater and had some fabulous views of the city and harbour. We took a drive down to the harbour later and there were so many boats! Auckland is locally known as the city of sails. I don't think I've ever seen so many boats in one place! In the evening we went to the cinema to see the new Hunger Games. We would have been among the first in the world to see it due to the 13 hour time difference from NZ and home! Very excited for the final one next year!
