Out of the park by 5.30 and still dark. We made good time and travelled well. The big smoke could be seen in the distance and the traffic soon got congested. At one point we almost came to a stand-still. It was only a minor car accident and the traffic was away again. A quick journey through the city and homeward bound. TUESDAY 1st September We left Mt Isa at 8am heading for Birdsville. Joe and I were a bit excited as Melissa and Shayne along with Daryl and Rilla were meeting us there tomorrow. Day 1 Today we left Lawn Hill which was rather sad as it was so peaceful and quiet. The thought of 8000 people at Birdsville was a bit daunting. We travelled a dirt road for about 300 kilometers which was a bit rough on the old cars. We stopped on the road to collect fire wood for Birdsville as apparently you have to take it all in.
