The day started foggy in the mountain tops, apparently not a good sign for a good day. We were up early and caught the Vista Dome train to Machu Picchu. Magnificant scenery, the river beside the rail line was flowing wildly. Apparently there had been a lot of rain a few days ago.
When we arrived at the Machu Picchu township it had started to rain. We were met there by our guide for the day, Julia. We all went for the half hour bus ride up the mountain to the Mapi site. The rain had stopped by then.
WOW!! What an amazing place!! Breathtaking!! The stone work, the architecture, the planning and the peace and tranquility are astounding!
Even though there other tourists there, it was not as crowded as it can be. Julia even commented how quiet it was.
We have walked and walked, and climbed and climbed . . .Julia was a fountain of information. After 3 hours of exploring the site with Julia's expert guiding, we headed off for much earned lunch. She then took us back to the township and to our hotel.
Ron and I then set off again to explore the town. More walking . . . You really need to be a mountain goat around here.We then decided to soothe our tired, aching legs and feet at the hot mineral springs - which was heaven.
An early night was in order after our tiring day.
