ok! so phi phi part 2 ............................ the plan was to stay on the island for a few days or so, but this soon changed and was extended as from the moment we stepped of the boat we fell in love with the place! Everyone is really chilled out, the night life is fantastic and the beaches are just out of this world, of all the places we have been we have to say that we would really be gutted if we never went back to Koh Phi Phi!!!!
We stayed for a week a did so much. So here goes...... Not much really to say about activities during the night as every night was simply occupied with bar after bar and far to much wiskey and beer! The bars however were bloody crazy! Our favourite which was a must everynight was one called the reggae bar. Sounds like a chilled out bob marley bar but no......It was simply a pub with a massive round bar at one end and smack bang in the middle is a full sized boxing ring!!!! The night starts of at around 10 with some Muy Thai boxing which is pretty cool, turns into abit of wwf style which is hilarious! The main events however happen after and consists of a ref in the ring asking the drunkard audience to fight for a free bucket of alcohol! It is absolutely crazy. For three rounds a couple of drunk guys just hit the hell out of each other whilst trying to control their drunken swaying! Even the girls get involved which is just so funny! Its a brilliant place and keeps you entertained for hours.
Our second night provided us with an experience in the Reggae bar which was however one that was both unbelievable and mental! One huge guy was paraded around the ring whilst an opponent was found....the guy really was huge and looked like he meant business. Once a victim was found, they stepped into the rink and we soon realised that the other guy was just as big! The fighting started and they were clearly professionals who practiced martial arts. The fight was going really well and we all enthralled until the huge first guy kicked the other and must have kicked him on the knee or something because right there infront of our faces his leg snapped completely in two.......at the shin and the ankle! Now reece was the usual boy and was gobsmacked yet not really that bothered by it whilst although i have never been bothered by blood or injuries at all, i was nearly sick right there on the floor at the side of the ring!!! seeing as how we were in Thailand the health and safety was fantastic...........NOT, they simply snapped of pieces of wood from of the side of the ring to make a splint, then stuck him on the back of a motobike to travel 4 hours to the nearest hospital!!!! Everyone was amazed especially when as soon as the motobike had turned round the corner the ref was back in the ring looking for new contenders!!!!!!
So the next port of call on our evening pub crawls was the tiger bar where they played music till the early hours and always had jackass playing on their big screens! and guess what.................................Even more cheap whiskey and beer! We spent the whole week with the two scots Craig and Kieth and made loads of really good friends as the week went buy, there was us, the scots, a guy called enrique from brazil who never stopped smiling and so aquired the name smiler, a lovely girl from croatia, two auzzie girls and then from our dorm, appart from the crazy nz guys there was tom, james and adam.......These three form the basis of a entertaining story which will follow shortly.
So on or third day we decided to take a trip to Maya bay (this is the famous beach). Rather than going on one of the organised trips we decided to barter with one of the local skippers and hire our own boat for the day, that way we could go to all of the different places of interest at our own lesiure. So the group consisting of us, Keith, Craig, Jackie and Milan (the aussie girls) jumped aboad and headed for our first destination, Maya bay. Upon boarding the driver warned that because it was a little choppy at sea there may be a little spray. This was the biggest understatement of the year! We got absolutely soaked, There wasnt a spot on us that was dry! There were several moments when we thought that the boat was about to capsize! It was so much fun though! We arrived at maya bay and i dont think we can effectively describe either what we saw or felt.....it was stunning! The water was so warm and clear you could see the fish at the bottom which was at least ten meters deep, the sand was the texture and colour of flour, it really was the most amazing place. We planned to stay there for an hour or two and then move on but we actually stayed all day me just laying around the beach or swimming and reece played frisby and football against the locals (reckons he taught them how to play..... whatever!!!) we only boarded the boat as the sun was setting, which as you guessed was also a beautiful sight. We just wished everyone at home could see it!
We then decided tp do another day trip with the guys from the dorm, as we only went to maya bay last time! Once again the little spray turned into a monsoon again! we even took shelter behind our snorkels! We turned up at the bay again and this time did some snorkling there was not that much to see as this was not the prime spot for it. We stayed for an hour or so more and then learnt that the spot for cliff diving was right round the corner. So misson cliff dive began. There was us, tom, james and then ADAM! now we like to think that we are the type of people that get along with anyone but this guy really pushed it! Although he was nice enough he drove us insane! He moned at everything, overreacted at the slightest thing, could not walk over rocks withour shoes, could not swim in the strong currents, we dont mean to sound horrible but he was a pansy and a pain in the bum! Anyway so we braved the waves and crabs (much to reeces bravery)! haha and made it to the cliffs. Now before we left i was half thinking that i would give this ago but when we all saw just how high and may i say stupidly dangerous it was i chickened out. The only way up was a ladder made of thin bamboo and was so slippery from the water there was no way i was going up especially seems as there was no way down other than going over the cliff and im accident prone enough as it is. So whilst i bobbed around in the sea below the boys proceeded to climb up.
The first to jump was james. It was a really long drop but he was fine when he surfaced, just a little winded. The next to jump however was Adam. Now if anything was going to go remotely wrong then it would have to involve this guy. So he jumps, screams like a girl the whole way down and me and james are waiting for him in the water below. He surfaces and the panic begins. He simply shouts help me and then goes face down in the water. Now im not the strongest person especially in currents that strong but me and james had to swim to him and drag him to a nearby boat. Once on the boat he was winded and complaining that his back was hurt, the guy was therefore massaging him and checking that he was ok. At this point reece and tom were still stood at the top of the cliff 20 meters up not having a clue what is happening below! Remember howver there is only one way down! So whos go is it next..........Reeces!!!!!! They had no idea what was going on, all they saw was us saving adam from the water so they were clearly anxious! So reece shouts down to see what is going on and if adam is ok and i simply shout "DONT JUMP" at this point reece being not the best at hearing thinks i shout jump and proceeds to hurl himself of this cliff. Now i must say i have never been so scared for such a short amount of time, especially as he started to come down in a bomb shape (certain disastor) i was just in the water screaming at the top of my voice "pencil, pencil, pencil' I cant say how relieved i felt when he came to the surface shouting "that was ****ing amazing"! Tom also made the jump with no problems.
So we spent the next 30 minutes checking adam was ok! then we decided he couldnt swim back to our boat so the boat he had been scrambled on had to take him round to our boat on the other side of the island! Kay went on the boat with him as the current was quite strong for her to get back to. so havin hijacked the peoples boat adam proceeds to tell the story of his "near death experience" saying that he had escaped with his life by inches. These elaborate stories went on for the whole trip round to the other side of the island. So we got adam back onto our boat and we all agreed that he was fine. He could walk, stand, sit and lie and was not in that much pain so we concluded that he must have just winded himself and maybe suffered from slight brusing. So we got adam as comfortable as possible and decided to head back. Along the way we came to a place called monkey bay and adam said he felt bad if we did not go for a look. So we left adam in the capable hands of the skipper and went for a look. It turns out that the monkeys that usually occupy the beach had headed of back into the trees so there was not actually anything to see other than another gorgeous beach. This was when we spotted two people snorkling about 10 meters away from the shore so we decided to hop back on the boat and check it out. (now we must sound like really horrible people not taking adam straight back but we all genuinly believed there was nothing wrong with him, we just knew he loved to moan alot! james had know him for years and assured us of this!) So we pulled up by some rocks and as we looked over the boat, the sight was amazing! there were so many fish and the coral was beautiful. We got our snorkles on and got in. It was the best snorkling we have ever done! We saw nemo fish, angel fish, sea horses, a massive swarm of baby jelly fish following there huge mum and so much more stuff that we have no idea what they are! it was so good!
So after we were all really selfish we got back on the boat to take adam home. Reece tried to check that he was comfortable enough and asked him if he would like to use our towel as a pillow, he declined and said that he thought there may be sand on it so he would make do without. Reece then gave him a life jacket as a pillow and he complained that it was not pushed in far enough!!! He really was fine. When we got back to the shore james was so annoyed with adam as he said he was putting it on and made him walk all the way to the hospital saying that he shouted at him and called him a fanny all the way telling him that he needed grow some balls!!!!
Ok so we didnt see the guys after so messaged them on facebook to say hey and check that adam was ok, and as it turns out he actually broke 2 vertabrae, had to stay in hospital for two weeks and had to fly home after only two weeks of his travelling!!! We have now accepted that inevitability of us going to hell!!!!!!!
comupance for kay was when she woke up the next day with 106 (yes 106, no lie) mozzy bites just on her legs (not counting the bites everywhere else including her forehead and her ass)! reeces karma is yet to catch up with him....yes please!(and it never will hahahaha) he especially deserves it since when i woke up i was so distressed and in pain and when i woke reece up he simply said "errrrgh get your malaria away from me!" and said that he would help by attaching brillo pads across the whole of his body so i could use him as a scratching post!
On our last day we visited the Tsunami memorial gardens. Sad experience but although there is still building work goin on it still didnt feel like it actually happened. Just so unbelievable and the people are still really happy. In alot of bars there are memorial plaques of lost people (many actually western), not nice to see but makes it slightly more real.
The rest of our time on phi phi was simply made up of more liver damaging activity and beach lounging! good times!
So in all we loved phi phi. It has to be our absolute favourite so far. The only bad thing we could possible say about our time there was that the water in the showers absolutely stank! The smell was like sulphur mixed with poroxide!!! horrid, oh and it was brown.....lovely!!! other than that simply fantastic!!!!!!
The next stop on the agenda was lanta.....so will fill you in asap although no bones were broken there!!!
