Ok so now we are really far behaind with writing this thing....there is a problem with the net in asia and it is really hard to access european sites, so bear with us!!!
Now we are Malaka in Malaysia but we have to start where we left off.......
So we arrived in Krabi town from Koh Phangnan and stayed in a really cool cheap little guesthouse. Just a matress on the floor in a wooden room but was really cosy! The town was actually really really quiet but is the gate way to get to all of the islands such as Riley and Phi Phi. At the end of the road where we stayed there was a fantastic little night food market which had stunning food and was sooooo cheap. On our second visit we noticed a meal on the menu called salted pork on a morning glory!!!!!!! Had no idea what it was but had to try it just for the comical value! haha. It was really nice, morning glory is simply chinese vegetables. So seeing as how it was so good i scooped up a big fork full and got reece to try it....contained upon the fork was a large piece of carrot, however i was soon to learn that this piece of "carrot" was infact a chilli!!!! The fact that reece had eaten fresh jungle chillis had prepared him in no way for this experience...he could handle every chilli he had tried since being away but this was something different! He proceeded to down two litres of water and it was the first time i ever saw him romotely angry....although he was clearly in pain it was the funniest thing ever. I laughed so hard i was nearly crying and as there was another chilli on the plate he was just shouting at me telling me to 'eat the f***ing chilli' and warning me that he was going to lace my food at the next opportunity!!!!! Me laughing did not help but after the pain subsided he thankfully saw the funny side, although he still claims it was the most painful experience ever!!!
The next day after the burning had stopped we decided to rent out a moped to explore and get to Ao Nang, the beach resort which is also the port where we would have to go to get to the islands. Ao Nang was nice but was wierd as it felt like we were in costa del sol. It was so touristy and although the beach was nice we decided to only spend a couple of nights there. The difference in Ao Nang compared to everywhere else we had been was evident when we chose our place to eat on the first night. As we have been doing for the whole time we have been away we ate off the streets. just a lady with a gas hob on the side of the road. The food is alway the best you can find and so cheap. Everywhere else we have been, this is more or less the norm but here we felt so uncomfortable as everyone that walked past stuck their noses up at us and looked at us as thought we were actually eating of the floor! So contrasting to the rest of Thailand! But we still enjoyed our short stay there.
We stayed in a basic but nice place and on the first day took a boat to the nearist island Riley beach. The beach was so nice, the water was stunning and the sand was the whitest we had ever seen. We spent the day there swimming in the really warm water and slumming it on the beach. Although it was lovely it was more of a holiday destination for the rich. The island was made up of 5 star luxury hotels and was obviously far to up market for us so we opted for just the day trip. The hotel prices ranged from 60 pounds a night to 6 thousand!!!!! slightly out of our budget!
The only bad thing that happened during our time in mainland Krabi was our memory card busting and us losing 500 pics from Cambodia up to Ao Nang! we were gutted but are still holding out hope that we can sort it when we get home, so no pics of the full moon party or Angkor Wat im afraid!!! :(
So the next stop Phi Phi. Now the only thing we had really heard about Koh Phi Phi was that it was one of the most beautiful islands in the world and one of its beaches, Maya Bay was chosen as the location for the film the beach. Other than that we were told that it was a place to chill out and get over the crazness of Koh Phangnan.....this we were soon to learn was completely wrong, the island was just as party crazy and the night life was fantastic!!!!!
When we arrive we soon found out however that the islands are not cheap! We walked round for about an hour in the blazing sun with our bags on our back just trying to find somewhere that was not completely out of our price range, or just somewhere that actually had a room for us! This is when we settled for an expensive room as it was the only one we could find and we were just in desperate need of a cold shower! The room seemed fine for the money. This was however until we returned that night after our evening meal. The room was completely infested with red ants all over the walls and in the bathroom! These little b*****s really hurt when they bite aswell so not good at all! We also had more mosquitos than either of us had ever seen, they were bloody everywhere, but i must say although i got biten to death as usual we did have such fun chasing them round the room and squating them everywhere! Reece has nicknamed me the mozzykiller as he waits in the corner on look out and once he spots them i pounce!!!! They make such a mess tho!!! During these shinanigans a huge millapede also made an appearence from underneath our bed which reece had to evacuate from the room! As you can imagine we checked out the next moring and went back on the hunt for somewhere else. This was when we found The rock backpackers! The place had the only dorms on the island and was an ok price so we decided to give the dorms a go.
We had a bunk bed each and shared the room with 12 other people. The biggest group in the dorm was a group of new zealand med students, now mum i know that you think i went a little crazy at uni, but that was nothing, these guys were off there heads!!!! We now have no idea why it is the brits that are called drunken binge drinkers because these guys took the trophy for nz! They were so nice though and friendly! They sat talking to us (whilst we all drank), telling us stories of uni partys, stealing all sorts of random things and just other funny, stupid and really random things that they have got up to!
On our first night we decided to go out for one or two drinks to check out the night life. We walked into the first pub, ordered a pint and heard our names called from the otherside of the bar. It was the two scottsh guys we met in Koh Phangnan and went to the full moon with. They were really nice guys so we were really happy to see them. Strangely they had just got to Phi Phi and it was the first pub they too had chosen to go into. One or two drinks then turned into a few more, then a few more buckets of whiskey and we ended up partying on the beach till 6 in morning! opps!.......
So much happened in Phi Phi that it is impossible to fit it all into this one entry so we will have to continue next time....... Hope everyone had a fantastic xmas and is looking forward to a great new year. We will be in singapore so cannot wait!!!!
love to you all x x x x x x
