I am now well and truly into Australia and have begun making my way?down the East Coast with Steve in our campervan. My last week with Libby and Gerald was brilliant. I spend 3 more nights?at their farm in the Tablelands and helped them to round up some of their cattle so i could go to the butchers. This was great fun but bloody scary. It involved me and Libby being on the quad bike and Gerald being on the scrambler and having to move them through a couple of fields until we got them near the holding pens. This is when it got hairy as you have to try and usher them into the pen but if they feel cornered they will just run straight past (or through) you. One of the 'mental' cows even ran straight through a metal gate. When in the pen you have to try and seperate the?5 you want to go to slaughter by shutting and opening different gates, throwing sticks at them, getting in the pen and ushering them in etc. They do have a really big bull that Gerald doesn't like and it can go for you and you have to fly over the fence to get away. The worst bit was, once we had done this and got back in the house, Libby spoke to the butcher and he said he could not pick them up so all our efforts were a waste, bummer! Gerald was not happy, it was only the arrival of Naomi (L and G's daughter) and Chloe Baby the next day (L and G's grandaughter) that cheered both of them up. The day was fairly relaxed as we went to the local hot pools and then went to the local pub for tea in the evening. After waving goodbye to Libby and Gerald the other day I spent a day snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, which was amazing. I saw loads of colourful fish and even a turtle. In the evening I met up with Steve as we were getting the camper the next day. Once we got the camper?we?made the very windy?drive to Naomi's house in Kurunda to pick up my bag and say farewell to Libby and Gerald properly. Gerald also wanted to see the camper and very nearly jumped in the back as we were going down the drive! We spent the night at a quality campsite at Mission Beach were we had a walk on the sea front, a swim in the pool and tried out the camper's?cooking facilities.?We have just arrived at Magnetic Island and the place is stunning, full of rainforest and small beaches. We are hear tomorrow night so are looking forward to exploring the island. Next time you hear from me I would have spent 2 nights on a racing boat at the Whitsunday's and may have also done Fraser Island so I will have even more to write then. See you later.
