Hey family and friends!
We are SOO sorry we haven't written...Theres so much fun to have and so little time! We had a really good two days in Amsterdam then headed here to Brussels, Belgium. Old family friends, the Christensens received us with open arms into their home and we have had a blast!
We explored Brussels with Melissa Christensen as our tourguide and had so much fun. Belgium is a beautiful country with fun people and very interesting combination of cultures. Brussels is gorgeous, we climbed to the top of the city and ate WAYYY too many fresh Belgian chocolates...it was incredible but I'm not sure I can ever do that againt to my stomach.
On our way into the city we took a short train (about 30 minutes) but it was one of the most fun train rides I've ever had. Why you might ask? Well, one very drunk (or possibly just crazy) french-speaking Belgian old man decided he wanted to marry Courtney and so he proceeded to tell her all his good qualities and sing to her for the entire trip. He told her of his his family and how she looked like his (dead) wife, and that he was headed to the beach, and that she should accompany him. He also told her she had gorgeous light eyes, but then he pulled out the killer...he proceeded to tell her about how amazing his medical insurance was and that it would last them forever. He also told her about his four (very fast) cars and his big house. He sat across from us in the train and yelled/sang the whole time (while Courtney stared out the window in a desperate attempt to avoid eye-contact). As he sang and pronounced his love (thinking we probably had no idea what he was saying) Melissa translated under her breath...we could not stop laughing (but courtney had to suppress her laugh as best she could until later). To say the least, it started our day off on a fun foot!
Then we walked ALLL over Brussels and ate chocolates and learned (the bits that Melissa knew) of Belgian history. We ate on "pita street" Pita street is this really fun street where there are tons of little Greek and Egyptian food places and they are highly competitive, so each restaurant sends one man out to stand on the street and yell out that their pitas are better than all the rest! It was really funny, and quite tasty (though the heavy lamb did not sit well in our stomachs later in the day)!
Our time here has been so fun and laid back. Today I (Susannah) had the really neat opportunity to visit other old family friends here in Brussels (one of whom was my 3rd grade teacher)! It was a really neat afternoon; I left feeling so encouraged by the joy and abundance that the Christians here live in.
We realize we haven't mentioned Amsterdam much but we decided that the stories will be much better in person so PLEASE ask!
OHH and the pics are from Arandul Castle that we visited with Aunt Mary in England (sorry they are late arriving). Thanks for you continued support and prayers!
We will put up pictures of Brussels and Amsterdam ASAP. We head to Paris tomorrow so Au Revoir!
