All I can say about my 10 day Western Australia Tour is WOW. This was possibly the best 10 days of my travels as the tour and the people were utterly awesome.
I got on the bus at silly o'clock in the morning, tired and a bit hungover from my last night out with the boys. Everyone was really quiet and to be honest from that moment I was dreading spending the next ten days in the company of these people...i really shouldn't have worried! This tour involved A LOT of driving as W.A is such a huge area with miles and miles in between places. We had a stop about 2 hours into the journey ( of which the whole time we all spent sleeping) after I had got some coffee and breakfast with everyone we all did introductions on the bus...after we were all introduced, fed and watered everyone was chatting and having a laugh. This is going to be amazing, I thought to myself, now feeling a lot more human after food and a caffeine hit. The main people I will probably talk about are Frenchy (nicknamed as he is from france, but really called yannick), Essex (Adam from Chelmsford) and Ashley (who wanted to be called sunshine but did really happen!) Ash is my soulmate, she is an absolute nutter and I found a really good friend in her. Within a few minutes of chatting we were causing havoc. There was also Lion (actually called Liam but poor frenchy didnt understand his accent and thought he was called Lion! ha ha) My other fave people were Mummy and Daddy Doyle and their daughter Jane. Ash and I spent half our time telling them that we should marry their sons (who we have never met) so that we could join their family. They were such lovely people and we had such a laugh with them. Anwyays I'll carry on instead of telling you about everyone!
On the first day we went to see the Pinnacles. These are rock formations and they are pretty random to be honest, Ash and I were shocking and appalled that Danielle (our fab tour guide) pointed out oones that were shaped like male...erm..parts. So it would be rude not to have pictures with them! ha ha. We had a nice walk around the Pinnacles and then it was back on the bus again. it was a long drive, we stopped for lunch etc and all the long journeys are broken up really well. In the afternoon we went sandboarding which was hilarious as I managed to get sand in places I never knew you could! Ash and I tried to sandboard together but we were far too heavy and didnt go anywhere. That night we stayed at a hostel, and just had a few beers around the picnic tables... it was a great first day.
Day 2...another very early morning.. was spent walking in a gorge, it was lovely. Some people chose to do a bit of absailing and it was funny watching people cos some looked like real "special" ones. When frenchy was absailing I decided to put on his hat (which was practically a beret) and pretend to be him whilst Ash took pics of me posing! it was hilarious...when he looked back at the pics on his camera he laughed his head off and didnt delete the pics and he loved them. After a nice walk and a bit of climbing we got back on the bus. The next stop was a place called Natures window which is a gorgeous. Its like a picture frame with the lovliest view through it. We took loadsa pics and then had the nciest BBQ lunch ever....guess what we did next...got back on the bus! Next we stopped at the stratolites (cant spell) which are rocks/living things that actually produce oxygen which is pretty cool. The beach there was amazing ans you could see little bubbles from where these organisms were releasing oxygen. GORGEOUS! We then made our way to shell beach for sunset.... it was the most gorgeous sunset ever...we sat around chilling until the sun had set and we were all relaxed. Another night was spent at a hostel just outside Monkey Mia ready for the next day...
Day 3..yet ANOTHER silly early morning. Today I didnt mind though. We were heading to Monkey Mia at sunrise to see the wild dolphins etc. Monkey Mia is located in a slightly odd postion. Although it is on the West coast due to its postioning you actually see the sun rise over the sea! It was so beautiful and as everyone stood on the beach watching, loads of wild dolphins swam in ready for their feed, it was gorgeous and veru surreal. Almost had to pinch myself to see if it was real. Once the dolphins were fed we had a few few hours. Ash, Frenchy, Essex and I decided to get a pedalo boat....it was hilarious...the weather was lovely and hot so we were all in our bikinis and everyone was happy as a pig in poo. What Ash and I underestimated was that the boys are trouble and before long we were all messing about. The woman at the hire place had said that its ok to jump off the boat but it is really hard to get back on. Frenchy being Frenchy decided to jump in, and couldnt get back on...Essex filmed him and Ash and I were wetting ourselves laughing as we tried to pedal away from Frenchy. He managed to get back onto the boat and then me also being an idiot decides to jump off, the water was flippin freezing! I also couldnt get back onto the pedalo and once again Essex filmed the struggle! A few of our other tour group had hited a pedalo too so Kully (also known as Cauliflower) and Teresa and a couple of the others came over to us. i decided to do a little moonie to them as they didnt look like they were having the best time....My arse obviously made them heaps happier. ha ha. After the hour on the pedalo we came back to the beach and I really wanted to Kayak. Ash and I hired the Kayak for 30 mins and it was great. We'd paddled hard then position the kayak to face to sun so we could sunbathe! Perfection. After an amazing morning in Monkey Mia we headed to Coral Bay, it was a beautiful spot by a stunning beach. That night we all went to a pub..we even managed to drag Dani (our tour guide) there. After a few embarassing introductions (dont ask) we decided to go back to the hostel...but ended up having a bus party with some of the other tour guides...it was hilarious and I decided to call it a night at 1am as it was another early ish mornind and I was still knackered from the other days.
Day 4.... Today was chilled out and lovely. I spent a bit of time on the beach and having a wander with Diane (my canadian sweetheart!) and Ash. We had decided to chill out and other went on boat trips etc but after feeling so much like crap on that boat in Cairns it had really put me off. We went back to to the hostel for lunch and chilled out for the afternoon. One of the trips was a quad biking tour and it looked a nit pants so I didnt bother going on it as they looked like they went slowly blah blah blah but poor Teresa had an accident and they charged her s*** loads of money to fix the quad bike. She was really shaken but thankfully she was ok. After leaving Coral Bay it was onto Exmouth.... The hostel in Exmouth was nice too and we were there for 2 nights which was great. The evenings were spent chatting drinking my fave beer Pure Blonde...a low carb "healthier" beer! Pure Blonde...how appropriate.
Day 5... Quite a few people had chosen to go and see the whale shark thingys and I was without my Ash for a whole day..was like losing my arm. We went to Turquoise Bay....the name says it all. The water was erm....well, turquoise and it was such a gorgeous beach. Despite the current being really strong it's a good place to snorkel, Diane and I held hands the whole time as the rips were pushing us so quickly down the beach! We saw some beautiful fish and then decided to make our way back to shore. After lounging about a bit I went back snorkelling with Dani. Such funny times.... We saw a reef shark as big as me and I was really excited...thought i'd be really scared but i think I have been in Oz too long that things dont really faze me too much! It was excitomg, they are harmless though and it was just chilling out at the bottom of the sea. Couldnt believe it was the first one I had seen. At least I have seen one!! Yipee! After the beach we went to see a lighthouse and then went back to the hostel where I was reunited with my baby girl Ashley and my other babies Frenchy and Essex. I actually missed them for the day...isnt that sad?! That evening we sat round having a beer and then joined some little aussie boys for their "party" I was the oldest one there....how would that make you feel?! I'm only 23! Like a granny I left at 1am as it was a really stupidly early morning..
Day 6...The all day drive to Karrijini National Park. It was a numb bum journey but our little possie entertained ourselves by playing hangman on the bus windows. We stopped off on the way but we bascially got to Karrijini in time to start making dinner. We had such a good time, making dinner, playing drinking games with our 2 new recruits....2 fab people had joined our tour the night before so we were getting to know Alex and Jackie (bro and sis) really well. They were up for a laugh so we loved them! Tonight was our first of 3 nights sleeping under the stars in a swag. It was quite a chilly night but I managed to get a bit of sleep.
Day 7 .... We did quite a bit of walking on this day, there are loads of gorges and lovely things to see round here. The waterfalls are amazing and we got to swim in a lovely one but had to do some weird aborigal thing in order that the serpent would know we were there etc. Must respect the culture of the aboriginals. After the swim we were soaking wet (funnily enough) but had to continue walking so I was wandering along in my bikini and my hiking boots! It was a really hot look that I'm sure will be on the catwalks around Spring '09! That night we were all pretty knackered but played drinking games (which got really loud with Chicken noises, especially by Essex!) and we ended up having a bit of a bus party. That night I wanted a good nights sleep so we slept in the doorway of a tent. I was sandwiched between Lion and Ash and I was so warm and snuggled I had the best night sleep ever!
Day 8.. Today we did SO MUCH walking. We had 3 separate walks and one was pretty scary but cool. The one called the spider walk was probably the most scary and you had to walk like a spider funnily enough...dangerous! It was well worth it though as we got to see some amazing views and waterfalls and pools etc. There was so much climbing and clambering around but I really enjoyed myself. The people really made this trip and I hope I do see people again. It was a really tiring day. Essex had said at the beginning that his birthday was approaching.....19 bless him but he was leaving our tour after Karrijini so we wouldnt be with him. As he was quite upset about this I went to a shop on the way up the coast and bought a happy birthday banner and some candles and we had a little birthday party for him in the middle of nowhere whilst camping. It was lovely and he was really touched by it. We were gutted that our Essex was leaving us, our last night was brilliant and another bus party was had.
Day 9.. Essex and Diane left first thing in the morning and it was horrible saying goodbye. In a short space of time you really get to know people well as you are spedning so much time with them! We went for a little walk in the morning to a waterfall and then just stopped at a station to stay the night there as it was a long drive to Broome. We spent the night playing twister which was hilarious and the onces again slept under the stars...our last night out in the bush together...
Day 10... We drove and drove and arrived in Broome late afternoon after stopping at 80 mile beach for a spot of frisby, the beach was gorgeous and huge! Ash and hadnt booked accomodation and we were sooo lucky to find a hostel. We were staying at the same one as Dani and a few others so it was awesome. That night we all met up in Diver for dinner, which was such a lovely way to end our trip. Ash and I decided to go onto a bar after which was a bit mistake as it was sooo crap Broome has to be the least night life place ever! It was funny though cos we got to see two fat women having a fight! Off to bed..I was soo shattered....
Day 11...We got up and Ash, myself and Dani went to the Broome Markets for a wander and then got some lunch and met up with Lion and Frenchy..soon follwed by ma bebe Jackie and her bro Alex. We hung out at our hostel and then went to Cable Beach.. which is gorgeous. Ash was doing a sunset camel ride so Dani, Alex and Jackie and I watched the sunset drinking a cocktail from a lovely bar. It was such a gorgeous sunset and I was really cutting it fine for catching my plane... I got back to the hostel at 6ish and had to shower and be at the airport ready for my flight at 19:50. Ah well, getting a bit too chilled out about these things. Saying goodbye was horrible as I had the best time with these people. Ash and I have said about going to Mexico for Spring Break together...all I can say is....watch out Mexico! The flight to Sydney was going to be a killer, Broome to Perth then Perth to Sydney...OVERNIGHT...urgh...!
