After flying from Alice Springs with a girl I met on my trip we said our goodbyes at the airport and i jumped on the shuttle bus. It must have been the longest bus journey ever as I was the last to get off at Billabong hostel. On the bus I met two lads who were cousins and seemed like a right laugh. The boys, Ben and Lewis, had only just arrive in Australia and werent really with it!
I met up with my friend Laura who i had met in Melbourne and she was heading off on her West Coast tour a couple of days after I arrived which was a bit gutting but at least i got to see her again, she also had met up with her friend from the UK so everyone was happy.
The weather in Perth was gorgeous to begin with and on the first day I went to Kings park which is huge and beautiful. i walked around there for ages and sat in the sun reading my book....how very civilised eh? The city itself only consists of a couple of main streets, its a bit random really. Not what I was used to in Melbourne...surprise, i mentioned the M word! If Perth was any more laid back it would be horizontal.
Also rather randomly I bumped into jenny who I had met on my rock tour and spent a few days with her and the boys. We went out in Northbridge and to a few other random places and had some funny nights out on the tiles, my favourite and by far the funniest was when we were out in Northbridge and we all had a bit to drink...water obviously.. and Jenny and I had lost the boys and decided to go in this place to eat. We sat down and had some food and then Jenny just walked out. I called her and said "What are you doing you nutter" she said " just leave, you said leaving a restaurant without paying was on your list of things to do before you were 30" " I cant do it jenny" I said to her. "I'm too nice" by this time I had been sitting at the table for another few minutes. "Im gonna pay and I'll come out" I replied. I went to the bar to pay and the woman said "You have to pay at the other end of the bar" so I trotted off to the other side, stood there for a good 15 seconds and no paid me any attention so I walked out of the restaurant cafe place and Jenny was sitting outside. I walked out and shouted "Run Jenny Run!" ha ha it was so funny and we didnt run at all but we walked quickly back to the hostel wetting ourselves laughing....it was the funniest thing ever and I still feel guilty but the didnt even notice! I still laugh about it now...but i guess its one of those ' You had to be there moments!' Sorry family, you have a criminal in the Cotton household.
One day Ben, Lewis, Jenny and I went to Fremantle Prison, we had wanted to do the night tour but it was only run on a couple days a week and I was quickly running out of time. The tour was brilliant and the prison only closed in 1991, not so long ago considering there was no proper sanitation and the place is a complete dive. It was such an interesting place and I learned a lot about the convicts who came over from England and Ireland and all the Europeans etc etc. We had such a good time there and I even went in the hanging chamber which was a bit grim to think that over 40 people were killed there. It's in places like Fremantle prision that you realise that until recently Oz was really rather backward!
There is only a couple of things to see in perth and one of them is the bell tower which is by the waters edge. Pretty building but thats about it! Got some pics... end of! ha ha
One of the days we were there Jenny, Myself and Mark went to Margaret River...yummy wine!!! I was looking forward to going as I had heard it was really good. We had made the mistake of going out and not gettting in until gone 4am and then having to get up at 6:30am to be picked up! Opps! It was a really nice day out and we went to Xanadu winery for some wine and to some caves and a lovely lighthouse. Unfortunately the weather wasnt amazing but it was still a great day all the same. Watched "Cars" the film on the way home which was lovely! ha ha
On Sunday we decided to go to Cottesloe for Sunday sessions...this turned out to be quite an eventful day. It was once again myself, Ben, Jenny and Lewis but also Mark who we had met at our hostel and had come on our trip to Margaret River. After having a lovely walk along the beach and Ben decidin to wear jennys jumper....looking so gay we headed to a couple of bars... By 5pm we had had beers and jager bombs! Lewis was kicked out of one place for looking and someone funny then Mark got punched in the other place and was kicked out but we didnt know where he went to we left him for a bit and continued our night! I can imagine that in the summer Cottesloe is the best place ever, and to be honest I loved it even in the winter...the sun was shining and the people are really friendly. Its the beach where heath Ledgers ashes were scattered. it was sooo beautiful.
Perth was lovely but a bit too quiet and chilled out for me... I had a lovely time and met some fab people..cant believe a 10 day trip to Broome was next on the agenda.....
