The boat crossing from Samui to Koh Phangan was rough! I was almost spewing out the window but luckily it was quite short! The weather was cloudy, miserable and rainy. Oh great! We were told to get to Koh Phangan way before the Full Moon Party as accomodation around Haadrin gets booked up really quickly. We stayed in a place called Mac Bay Resort which was out of Haadrin as there are many stories of guesthouses, bungalows and hotels being broken into on the night of the full moon party because everyone is out. Mac Bay resort had been recommended by the Northern Lads in Phi Phi so we trusted their judgement. We stayed in a bungalow ON THE BEACH! Each bunglow had its own hammack on the porch. It was so quaint. Lois, James, Jayne, Paul (who we'd met in Vietnam) and Craig (Lauras friend from Australia who we met in Cambodia) were meeting us there the next day there.
The weather was atrocious. The rain never stopped. I always thought that monsoon meant that it rained for 3 hours a day and when it stopped the sun came out. I was wrong once again. We had a little walk and had lunch in an English/Thai place which was owned by a mental Thai woman and an English guy. We had a good natter to her and then went back to the bungalow. Laura was so dosed up on medication that she slept in the room whilt I laid in the hammack attempting to read but I was relaxed I was drifting in and out of sleep. It was a brilliant 3 hours, chilling. We went to a near by town for dinner and a beer and ended up in a bar with all the mental east end ex-pats, it was so funny but we managed to escape! Laura had arranged to meet her friends from Australia on the other side of the island so we went there after and had a really good evening with them all.
Sure enough the next day everyone else arrived. It was absolutely peeing down but everyone seemed to still be in high spirits. We chilled out and made some new mates including Billy and Sean who were mental northerners and some Canadians and various other people! We ended up getting so annoyed with the weather that Paul, James and I ended up playing outside in our swimmers as we were getting drenched! One day we went to the Mason Arms which was a true English Pub. I hate that kind of stuff but it was brilliant and I needed a good pie! ha ha.The weather didnt pick up and we spent ages in the guesthouse next door watching their films and stuff.
The night before the full moon party we played drinking games before heading to Haad Rin to check it all out. We played UNO so many times as it was a really good way of everyone joining in, and plus, it was addictive. We all clambered into a tuk tuk and went to Coral Bungalows which was where quite a few of out mates from Chiang Mai were, it was so good to see them! We had a Chang or two in there before heading into Haadrin. Laura felt crap so went back so James, Me, Lois and Craig were left, we realised that the only way this night was going to get better was to get absolutely twatted! We ended up in a bar right on the beach front and it was the best night out ever. Jayne and Paul ended up coming down and we had such a great time. A lot of people say that the pre-full moon party is better than the full moon itself.
The next evening it really was the Full Moon Party and my last night out travelling. We all went to the guesthouse next door to get ready and everyone was painting everyone and drinking too much Chang! Morgan, one of the canadians was an artist and drew the most beautiful flowers and stuff on people in fluro paint. It was middnight before we headed off to Haadrin and the party mood was well underway! There was no way of finding anyone and after 1 or 4 too many buckets the night was mental! We bumped into the boys from Chiang mai and had an awesome time with them. I danced for hours with no shoes on, on the beach and for the first time it wasnt raining! We walked upto Mellow Mountain and ended up dancing in the road and finished off the night or should I say morning eating Falafel! It was around 730am when I managed to get back and I sat on the beach watching the sunrise, then it started to rain. I was feeling a bit sad as later that day I was getting the boat to Samui and then flying back to Bangkok ready for my flight to Dubai to meet my parents. Due to the amount of M150 I had drank (a seriously weird version of red bull which is illeagal in any other country) I slept for about 2 hours and then woke up. I was shattered, I felt like crap and I didnt know what to do with myself. It was like all these weeks of saying...oooh I go home soon had finally dawned on me...like hitting a brick wall at the speed of light.
I said my goodbyes to James, Craig and Lois but the hardest one was leaving Laura. I had met Laura back in July in New Zealand and had only spent about 2 weeks apart from her in all that time. There were buckets of tears shed as I knew it was all over. Travelling, meeting new people, being able to live in flip flops 24 hours a day, not knowing where you're sleeping from night to night... this was it. Jayne and Paul were also leaving so we shared a taxi to the port. They were flying from Surat Thani to Bangkok whereas I was flying from Samui, it was more expensive but didnt want any hassle!
I got the boat back to Samui and then a taxi to the airport. The airport is the nicest airport ever! It was so cute and there were shops and cafes and free internet, drinks and nibbles. Sorted. I jumped on the plane back to Bangkok. It lovely being back in Bangkok as I know it quite well now. I stayed in Khao San Road again and the next day Jayne and Paul came to my hotel as they were on the same flight to Dubai but where headed back to Birmingham Airport. Jayne was getting her hair done and Paul and I had a real girlie day! We went shopping, we had a massage and then we went for coffee! Jayne met us and had her nails done and we realised that we had about 30 mins to pack and get showered and then go to the airport. It was so surreal. This was the end of the road for all 3 of us....
