Vang Vieng... What a place! It was pouring with rain when we got there and the storm was out of control! Upon arrival into the town I was astounded by the amount of bars playing 'Friends' and 'Family Guy.' We eventually found a nice guesthouse which overlooked the river and there were even hammocks outside that you can lay in and chill whilst looking at beautiful mountains and the Mekong River. Gabs, Graeme, Claire, Dean and myself all stayed at the same guesthouse which was awesome. We decided to go for a little wander and randomly and gladly I bumped into Lisa, James, Lois and Laura. They were leaving the next day to go to Hanoi, Vietnam as they couldnt get hold of me. I was a bit gutted to be honest but thats travelling!
That evening we went out for dinner with Claire and Dean. The food was lovely but the most amusing thing i the 'Happy Menu' which consisted of all sorts of drugs you can randomly buy. This was an official menu as it was even laminated! ha ha. After dinner we went to an Aussie owned pub which was hilarious.... he measured vodka with the lid of the bottle...if you imagined a big fat bogen Aussie man with about half of a braincell you'd be close. After that we went and chilled out at Sunset bar in Hammocks which was pretty flippin' good!
Next day we went Tubing... This is why everyone comes to Vang Vieng. You get a huge rubber ring get in the river and float down and there are an abundance of bars to stop at. Graeme, Gabs, Dean, Claire and I went together. It was the funniest thing I have ever done in my life. We stopped at a few bars and one particular one was really lairy. There was a DJ playing the BEST tunes ever and also there was 2 massive mud pools for mud wrestling. After a couple of shandies and the attitude of 'when in Rome' I literally thre myself into the pool of mud. It was brilliant.. it was so much fun, you end up having mud fights with people you dont know! One Irish guy picked me up and threw me back into the mud after I'd washed off the mud! It was in my eyes and everything.. I looked a mess but I didnt care a it was so much fun! There were so many good bars and there are also loads of zip lines and jumps and stuff to do. I was still worried about my dodgey ankle from Fiji so i didnt do any of them... plus they were really high! All I can say about Mr Lao Lao bar is...mental. As it was starting to get dark we decided to start floating back to town. On the journey we saw Jay, who we had met the night before in Aussie Bar. He was passed out in his rubber ring so Dean and I decided to go and rescue him as it didnt look like he was actually going to make it back. The rescue operation was hilarious in itself and we managed to tow him home. He was such a mess but we managed to finally get him to sunset bar safe and well. By this time it was dark! We had to walk from Sunset bar to the Tubing place to give back our rings. We got back to the guesthouse and I jumped straight in the shower, when i got out i was so tired I laid on my bed in the towel at 7pm and woke up at nealy 8....the only thing was it was 8am I woke up at!!! I had slept for 13 hours! It was ridiculous but hilarious. Gabs and Graeme had gone out and Claire and Dean had just slept too. We had a leisurely breaky and as we had bought more than 4 meals we got a bucket of Sangsom whiskey free....yes with breakfast... I couldnt handle it...only had a few sips! After eating we became the sado's sitting in the bar watching 'Friends' for hours on end..it was the best few hours ever.
That night we went to Bucket Bar which was mental. So many randoms in there and loads of people I knew from Chiang Mai and the boat etc. it was sooo awesome! I saw these 2 guys that looked really familiar and one of them came up to me and said 'Hiya, bet you cant remember where you know us from' I was guessing and then he said ' Sydney, Queenstown...' OH MY GOD i had bumped into the scottish guys I had randomly met in Sydney in July. I then bumped into them in Queenstown in New Zealand and now in the middle of South East Asia, here I am with them! So random. We had a laugh about it and Fraser and Kevin joked that I'd probs see them again... I didnt think it was possible...
The next day, even though I was hanging from too many buckets I got up and booked my bus out of Vang Vieng to head to Vientienne. I also booked a flight from Vientiane to Hanoi so I could meet up with everyone. I went for breaky with Johnnie who was one of my mates from Chiang Mai but originally met in Bangkok. It was sad to say goodbye to Gabs and Graeme and Dean and Claire but this is the hard bit about travelling..goodbyes get worse. Randomly on my bus the crazy Franch girl Stephanie was there as was Nike, the German from the slow boat. The journey was soo bumpy to Vientiene but it was ok, the roads were horrendous though!
