Hello again!!! Time for an update on our travels.
So when we arrived in Australia we hadn't slept in 36 hours and checked Melbourne out before crashing for the night. Had to get up early to drive our 8 seater (rental car upgraded us from our 3 seater as they wanted it in Adelaide) to halls gap where we were going to spend 2 nights and do some biking, trekking, hiking etc. I say were for a reason.
We set off down the great ocean road early yesterday morning. Got to Apollo bay where we had fish and chips on the beach from a Greek chip shop...souvlaki was on the menu and there was a poster of Greece winning 2004 so kind of gave it away. And u know when some1 just "looks" Greek? Had a chat with him and we got on the road again. I was driving through the woods and it started pissing it down! Was quite fun having thunderstorm style hail stone along with a headwind.
We got to the 12 apostles but the place was sooooo wet! We ran through the hail, fighting the gale force winds just for a glimpse of one of the apostles through the 5 metre visibility! Was so worth it! So back on the road. Next stop, port fairy. We got there and found the port, thought what a s***hole and set off. Found this toilet that was outside with some walls built round it and u cld c the sea from the toilet. Oh and there was no light! Fun, we got back in the car and thought "what a s***hole port fairy is, let's get to halls gap". We were low on petrol so stopped off at the petrol station. We didn't kno wat petrol it took so had a look on the cap. There was a sign saying pb with a line crossed through it. What does that mean? We looked in the handbook and emilie saw somewhere that said put diesel in. Sorted. Filled up the car with $80 of petrol and set off. 1 mile down the road, the car stops. f***. U kno when it hits u? Of course it was unleaded! f*** f*** f***. 1 mile out of port fairy with a busted car. This guy stopped as we were trying to push the car round and back to the petrol station. Call europcar. No good. They can't send any1 out with a replacement car. Rac come, guy tows us 100 yards to a motel and leaves. So we're resigned to the fact we're stuck in port fairy and our pre paid accomodation in the grampians isn't gonna happen. It's only 7pm but there r no buses, trains or even ppl! We walk to the petrol station and get some credit for fone. Europcar tell us even tho we paid extra for insurance, we're liable for damage as we have been negligent. w***ers. Oh did I mention the car was brand new and had never been driven? Petrol station call their mechanic and says if it was the other way round (unleaded into diesel) u cld flush it out as It's heavier. So we walk into town. I say town, I mean roundabout. Get to youth hostel, looks shut. Knock on the door, woman answers and takes us in for the night. Really nice ppl there including a family of 5 who let us use their food for dinner! Same for breakfast and europcar say Rac r gonna pick it up in morning to take to dealer garage. If we can fix it ourselves we can pay and keep it otherwise we can't get anywhere. We found a through the night train we were gonna take but we got a lift with the tow truck driver from port fairy to ballarat and passed thru a town called darlington! Got to ballarat and europcar there had garage and fixed it in the hour for $86! Woop woop! Back on the road, get to halls gap 24 hours later than scheduled with a story to tell u all!
Omg, kangaroos roam the streets here and are not afraid...It's amazing! They r so graceful bouncing around! Love them! Went out for food, came bk, showered, now in bed! Gonna get up 2moro, go for a walk, drive to Adelaide for the nxt part of the tour! Laters. Cos and em. Xxx
