Another long bus trip before arriving in Siam Reap at The Angkor Way Hotel.
We had agreed with Dara that we would both give blood to the Kantha Bopha Children's hospital along with our mates Mo and Becks! After going on and on at Dara asking if it was clean and safe etc etc it was time to go! ahhhhhhhhhhh!
Feeling nervous we signed our forms before having our fingers pricked and 1/3 of a litre was taken from each of us. It surprisingly didnt hurt much at all! Although Becks went first and her jittery performance put us all on edge. teehee....We got given cookies and a can of coke (which to backpackers is a free meal). We also got a T-shirt saying we had given blood to raise awareness.
The next morning was an early one..Leaving the hotel at 4.30am ! (yes that is the middle of the night).. we were up for a good reason though.. To see the sunrise over Angkor Wat Temple. We waited and we waited.. took pictures and even some more pictures but the cloud was so thick that we have to admit it was rubbish! Not everyone was unenthusiastic but we are able to admit it was a huge disappointment.
The rest of our time in Siam Reap was spent temple visiting... Angkor Wat, Banteay Srei, The Bayon, Ta prohm (the temple where Tomb Raider was filmed.. bet your are jealous Elliot!). After being completely templed out we went to the floating village 'Chong Kneas'. It was crazy, they had schools, basketball courts, restaurants and a church all floating on the river! This village moves depending on which season it is and we even got to see one floating house being moved by a speedboat!
It was our last evening and the group had arranged to surprise Dara with dinner and a cake. It was going to be her birthday soon and we wanted to show our appreciation for the past month. Just before dinner we jumped on the internet and who should walk through the door but Ange. We arranged to meet her later on for drinks.
Dinner as great and the pitchers of rum and coke were flowing as they were so cheap! We saw Cambodian dancers and even had a photo on stage with them. The night got messier when we met Ange , Rich and James for more buckets of rum and coke!
All we can say is we didnt go to bed that night and it was time for an 8 hr minibus ride, half of the journey being on the dancing road to Bangkok. For your information it is named the dancing road as its a dirt track and is very VERY bumpy... an enjoyable hangover cure.. NOT!
