Today we finished our last full day in the city of Athens. This is a city of sleeping dogs (everywhere), veg and fruit salesmen in pickup trucks going down the street like an ice cream van, very cheap and delicious olives (sold by the kilo!), great bakery's (spinach pie, feta pie, sweets, yummy), oh ya and this thing called the Acropolis.
Over the past couple days we have seen a lot of marble. Climbed to the top of the Parthenon, saw the temple of Zeus, went to Hadrian's Library (Del was hoping to get a new book, but there was none to be found in all the rubble) and much more.
Poor Del battled on yesterday as I dragged him out sightseeing with his "man flu". He soldiered on and I knew it was bad when he didn't want to eat anything. If you really know Del, you know that's not normal. Got an early night last night and pumped some meds into him and he woke up feeling better. So off we went sightseeing again.
It's been interesting walking around and seeing things that are so advanced but from Before Christ. So much has gone on here throughout civilization. We are both really happy we took the time to explore this old city.
We are leaving Athens early tomorrow morning after spending tonight in the airport. A quick hellogoodbye in England and then off to New Delhi for the next leg in our trip...
