We have learned so much during our time in Berlin. First and most important thing is that if it looks old, it's not. And if it really is old it has bullet hole repairs. 90% of the city was destroyed in WWII. This is a true city of recent history. History that even occurred during our lifetimes. With Hitler making this home, anti semitism beginning and ghetto forming. Allied forces bombing and the eventual creation and demolition of the Berlin Wall. Everything around us is so thought provoking.
We spent our days treading pavement and lots of it. We stumbled upon a free tour that lasted 4 hours, seeing almost all of the sites. Later that night we entered the Parliament Building (it has a large glass dome on to open to the public) When we made it to the top we were treated with 360 degree views of the city just as the sun was setting. We can highly recommend doing this should you find yourself in Berlin.
The following day we celebrated our 1 year anniversary.
We went to see two very different remaining parts of the Berlin Wall. The first was how it originally looks including what was known as the deathstrip. The second is the most interesting section of the remaining wall. Various street artists have been given a section to do with as they wish. It is now one giant mural.
That night we enjoyed a sit down dinner and chilled out in the park.
Berlin is defiantly a place to come and spend a few days, but don't forget your walking shoes...
