Our last day in Stockholm and Keith is so under the weather that he slept all day. I stayed with him until noon thinking he'd get better after a nap, but he finally insisted I venture out to see more of the city. Armed with my mass transit pass and a city map, I first venture to the city center to catch the trolley, even though the map shows it there, it's really five or so blocks away. So I walked down the alley ways, streets, and through a gorgeous church yard to the old town. I really didn't know where I was going, just meandering around following crowds. Finally found myself in the old town, so wandered around there, thinking I'd catch the mass transit boat, but after a while, decided to head back off the island and found myself at the "taste of Sweden" celebration. A square city block of food and drink booths along with two stages of cooking demonstrations. So wandered and observed, watched and learned? Upon leaving the food celebration, I happened upon the trolley ( a good 2+ hours after I first started looking for it) and headed out to the island with the Vasa Museum. No wonder this is Sweden's number one places to visit. Seeing this 98% original 300+ year old sunken war ship and original artifacts, history, tours, and films was so very interesting. After three hours there I wandered around the island and waterways and finally took the trolley home.
FYI - wandering around by myself, I never felt safer. This Scandinavian vacation was incredible. We head home tomorrow and are both looking forward to seeing family, friends, my garden, and our bed.
