I always say that Colin is my hero and today he certainly deserves that accolade. Our journey was extremely difficult and intense.
We rode for four hours through torrential rain and thunderstorms on very poor road surfaces, round hairpin bends and up and down mountain passes. The concentration for Colin was immense, a number of times on the hairpins the back wheel slipped due to the greasy roads or flowing water but each time he corrected the bike and kept us safe. On arriving thoroughly cold and wet on the outskirts of the city, Colin then had to ride through standing water, on cobbled streets and negotiate tram lines. Through the journey along with the pouring rain we also had the spray of the vehicles in front of us and going in the opposite direction. His riding skills always impress me but today was probably the most difficult ride we have ever done. I'm just hoping that the weather forecast is accurate and at least for the next week we have the sunshine they say is to come. We'll gladly ride in high temperatures if it keeps the storms away.
Sophia itself when we went out exploring is very compact with in fact very little to see and do once you've walked to and past the main attractions.
Last night Terry recommended a traditional Bulgarian restaurant to us but having had two very disappointing meals he is thinking we'll go for known foods tonight!
