Tassie Trip 2015
Day 9
Hobart - Clarence - Richmond - Cadbury Tour Claremont - Hobart
The rain we had last night was some of the most ferocious I have ever camped in.....ever!
It started to rain just before dinner and didn't stop all night. It bucketed down. Everything pretty much got wet, puddles everywhere and an extremely miserable night for all.
The daylight dawned to some weary travellers surveying the wet and the damage caused. Awnings pushing sheets of water out, awnings ripped of other caravans in the park. Not fun.
We dusted ourselves off and decided to head inland to the pretty town of Richmond. We meanderd up through the hills to the town with the oldest bridge built in Australia and the oldest gaol in the country as well. It's like 3 x Mogo's rolled in together.
We wandered the streets looking in the shops on offer in this beautifully historic town and has lunch at the Bakery. On offer was a Scallop Pie - something I've been hanging to try since we arrived. It didn't disappoint either. We finished that off with a couple of French Vanilla slices and a Chocolate Eclair!
After lunch, the kids hit the Richmond maze which was supposed to take about 30 mins to complete- but our lots managed to finish it in the time it took to drink a coffee!
Chocolate was the theme of the afternoon as we left Richmond to head to the Cadbury Chocolate factory in Claremont for a tour and of course lots of chocolate!
You can't access the manufacturing part of the factory now but the tour was still very informative and kept us all interested. Claremont makes all the block chocolate and Caramelos, Freddos and Marvellous Creations for the Australasian market. They only finish the product though as all the raw material refinement is done in Singapore these days. Still, they can churn out 700 Giant Caramellos every minute or 1000 a minute for the smaller Freddos - that's a lot of chocolate!!
We filled our baskets with all sorts of chocolate goodness and headed back to camp pretty satisfied with ourselves.
The weather has been 10 seasons in one day today - sleety rain, full blown rain, sunshine, blue sky, overcast and cloudy - typical Tassie weather we hear.
Dinner tonight was a Pesto Pasta with chicken mince and sundried tomatoes and was inhaled pretty quickly.
Tomorrow we are off the Bruny Island on the car ferry for more exploring - weather is supposed to be clearing......we hope!

Scally Oh I'm so jealous. I would love to go to the choc factory especially where they make all my favourites!
