Tassie Trip 2015
Day 8
White Beach - Remarkable Cave - Sorell - Battery Point -Hobart - Cascade Brewery - Hobart
We left the beach today and headed to the 'big smoke' to spend the next 5 nights.
Before we left though, we took a quick 15 min drive through the town of Carnarvon and out to the point where the raging sea has carved a lengthy hole through the dolomite rock and up to a small beach to form a cave. Seems the surfers both local and from abroad have also taken a liking to this place as well. It's a step and quick in and out wave but obviously enough to give of a ride. Judging from he smashed board in about 15 pieces at the other end of the tunnel, it's didn't always go well!
From there we tracked back to awhile Beach, picked up the van and headed towards Hobart. We took the other road out past Nubeena and that meets up with Eaglehawk Bluff before backtracking up the peninsula and towards Sorell. We fueled in Sorell and headed left and over the first of the series of bridges that lead to Hobart.
Negotiating the windy suburban streets we ended up at Battery Point overlooking the massive expanse that is the Derwent River and the Capital of Hobart on the other side.
Given the weather was favourable, we headed for the park to dump the vans and to plan out the rest of the afternoon. We decided to keep setting up and for lunch by that stage and then headed off towards the base of Mt Wellington where Peter Degraves carved out a legend.
Yes we hit the Cascade Brewery for an afternoon of tours, yarns and of course beer drinking!
Now where on earth would you rather be than touring a brewery that produces 1500 kegs of 49.5 litres of beer per day and as a reward for being interested, getting to pull your own beers from their taps. We were supposed to get 3 beers each but we got messed around on our tour and so ended up getting 4 ponies each + a case of Bright Ale + a case of Mercury Draught Cider ! Woohoo lucky days ahead!
Having well and truely settled in for the afternoon, we had 'last drinks' called and were shuffled out of the brewery and so reluctantly retuned back to camp for dinner and to see the weather closing in on us.
Tomorrow we shall explore more of Hobart - weather depending......
