Outback Adventure 2019
Day 11
Yulara - Uluru- Kata Tjuta - Yulara
There was a moody teenager who was rudely awakened at 5.15am this morning. He wasn’t impressed at all.....and he’s the one that always loves watching the sunrise!
We left the van in the pitch black in ‘peak hour’ at 5.35am to head out to the ‘proper’ sunrise viewing area at Uluru. We got there bang on 6am and there was already a decent crowd gathering. We quickly found our spot and watched in amazement at the bus loads that arrived shortly after us! Craziness! People everywhere. We waited for the show to begin.....,and it wasn’t nearly as good (for mine) as yesterday’s location.
One particular pushy Japanese tourist bustled in between Corinne and then in full blown Japanese basically demanded I take a picture of her and her husband and friend......just 1 picture through, the husband demanded! And I don’t even know Japanese!
We high tailed it out of there as soon as the sun was up and the rock was bathed in sunlight.
We headed back to Uluru on the eastern side (the older side) to hike that side of the rock for a while. After about 6 kms the heat started to kick in and so it was decided that the girls would continue to walk to the Mala car park and then boys would hike back to get the Disco. The boys were ripped off as Lana found a Thorny Devil along the way which we have all been desperately trying to find in the wild!
Having picked up the Thorny Devil crew we headed back to camp and stopped in at the bus parking sunset viewing spot for a look see. It’s a different angle on the rock and was a nice walk in the rusty red dirt.
We lunch and rested for a good few hours in the heat of the day (another 35 degree day today!)
For sunset tonight we trekked back to Kata Tjuta. Rather than the marked viewing points we did a couple of drive bys and settled on a spot on the way to the Valley of the Winds walk. The view was spectacular and the flies were bloody annoying! We all needed our fly nets this afternoon as they were just relentless. It didn’t ruin our visit though and we watched a pretty good sunset .
After dinner tonight Cayla found a snake under her feet at our camp. It freaked Lana out straight away. Mr snakes (Cayden) determined it to be a harmless blind snake. It’s about 20cm long and now living in an ice cream container until morning when we can take a decent picture and relocate him!
So that wraps our Uluru/Kata Tjuta experience for this trip. We’ve seen and done it all for mine and if we haven’t done it...then it isn’t worth doing!
On to Kings Canyon tomorrow for more adventures!
