Outback Adventure 2019
Day 11
Yulara - Kings Canyon
Today was move day. We got moving after the morning peak hour in the campground and after breakfast needed to swap around a tyre on the caravan that was wearing strangely. The exercise complete, we hit the road just after 9.30am to head out to Kings Canyon.
Along the way of a fairly uneventful 300 odd kms we drive past a lone camel hanging out in the outback.
We arrived at Kings Canyon Resort (the only place you can stay) just after 1pm in 35 degree heat. After setting up on our site, we had lunch and cranked the air conditioning to cool us down.
Lana and Corinne took a drive out to check out helicopter flights that Lana was wanting to take. Although she was wanting to go tomorrow, there was a seat available on the next flight and so off she went! We had all done the flight last time we were here and so Lana had high expectations - and they were met!
At about 5pm the temp had dropped.....nah it was still 35 degrees, and so we all decided to drive out to the Canyon to do the Kings Creek walk which walks straight through the centre of the Canyon. Spectacular colours of the red rocks and blue skies mix with the beautiful river gums and stones of the dry river bed.
The flies continue to be as pesky here as they were in Uluru and so it was back out with the fly nets again - as I’m sure they will be tomorrow.
We arrived back to the van in time to grab a beer and walk up to the sunset viewing deck to watch tonight’s sky show finalle. There was a bit of cloud about and so we thought it would be a dud , however, it cleared enough to to be quite lovely.
We had nachos tonight for dinner which was a nice treat and real simple in the caravan with power on.
Tomorrow we trek the 6.8km rim walk of the canyon. It’s going to be 37 degrees so it’s another early start in order to beat the heat!
