Outback Adventure 2019
Day 9
Yulara - Uluru - Yulara
Short blog today. The next few days will be like that.
Today was spent exploring Uluru and the various moods and facets that it holds.
We did the Marla Walk at 8am which was packed - it’s peak season! The Ranger had to fight with a commercial tour operator to get us access to some sites around the rock. We did this tour 9 years ago and it was good to do it again.
After the walk we spent some time at the Cultural Centre and did a tour with some of the local Anangu people. Cayla was quite fascinated with the Anangu women who were doing dot painting and other paintings on canvas.
We headed back to Yulara and our van for lunch and some downtime (we did some washing). On the way back we stopped by the camel farm which is the largest in Australia with over 60 camels!
At 3.30pm we packed up and headed back to Uluru for a drive around the whole of the circumference before finding our spot for the sunset tonight.
We battled the flies (a constant menace in the daylight) enjoying the sun clocking off for the day. I had wanted to do a sausage sizzle in the car park watching the sunset, but the flies are such a menace it would have wrecked that experience. We did it in late June last time which was much more cooler and no flies!
We instead cooked our sausages back at the caravan after the flies left us for the night.
Tomorrow we will watch the sunrise over Uluru and then head back to Kata Tjuta to do the Valley of the Winds walk.
