Getting to the camp site in the dark, we had very little idea of what it would be like in the morning! Clarkey's concern was quelled slightly by the little poem in each loo cubicle asking you to brush so the next person has a clean loo too.
So we had a peaceful night, no pillaging , cult offerings or seances! ;-)
We headed off early doors to get back to Townsville and find a glazier to patch up Frank. A local trader 'gaffer taped' us back together and we hit the road for the 350km stint back to Cairns. Clarkey was determined to get to Britz before they shut at 4pm and give them a piece of her mind!
The journey back was long and blustery and poor Frank was on 2 wheels around some corners. We broke the journey by stopping for a short break in Cardwell and had a bite to eat in the back of the van. Fuelled up we hit the road again for the remaining 180km.
When we approached Cairns it was clear the school run was in full flow and we doubted we would get there in time, with only 3 minutes on the clock we pulled into Britz car park! Phew! A very nice gentleman came out and Clarkey bottled it. He was calm, helpful and determined that it wouldn't have any more effect on our trip. He recommended the local camp site as we'd already planned to stay in Cairns so we headed there to get settled and ready for a wander back to the promenade. The 30 min walk in did us good. A stretch of the legs, bit of fresh air and catching some less fierce afternoon sun rays. Town was packed, it seems 6pm is the time for every man, woman and dog to go running up and down the front! There were some very fit runners and also some whose physique really required slightly more covering up!
We stopped for a beer at Rattle and Hums and promptly ended up ordering food there too. Good solid American food, calamari (deep fried), BBQ pork ribs, chicken schnitzel all coming with plenty of chips! Couple of beers to accompany and the stresses of the day's drive and 'scrap' with Britz disappeared! Late to bed tonight, it's almost 10pm!!
