it's amazing how strict they are on getting into singapore, we saw 2 people being escorted off to interview in passport control! first night we stayed in china town in a place called the royal peacock- which was really nice, still no windows though! we went for lunch in a market place when we got there, which was nice and cheap, but i ended up with chicken skin stuffed with chicken skin for one of my portions, the lemon chicken and chilli chicken was scrummy though. we wandered around for a little while just to get our bearings- we came out of the MRT (their tube station) and got stuck in a shopping centre for 15 minutes- it may sound like a good thing but it was really, really not- they should state the exits more clearly! in the evening we went out for our last night with our tour group and headed into chinatown for a meal in a really sweet place, in comparison to the other parts of asia everything was very expensive though, which was a shock to the system after paying about 15p per meal in thailand. we headed down to clarke quay afterwards for drinks, which i admit was a gorgeous place but NOT a cheap place, it cost jim 12 dollars for a half pint of beer, thats about 4 quid! so we headed across the river and went to a brewery- where the guys bought a 4 litre "tower" of beer between 3 of them... lordy! the next day me and jim headed up to the 'hang out' hostel, which is where we are staying for 3 nights, it's a great place with free internet access- hence the updates! got a great roof terrace too. we met up with Tubz and will (some of our friends from home) and had some lunch in little india followed by a digital camera buying session, which resulted in a 200 pound camera being bought by myself, but it's great, goes underwater and everything! in the evening we played some drinking games at the hostel before going out to a club called Zeuk, which was an alright place, but we went in at about 1.30am so we wern't really in a clubby mood. the next day we didn't get round to doing much until about 3, and then it took us until 6 to get toby to wake up fully and we all went to the night safari- which was really cool, saw lots of animals that i'd never seen before and went to an animal show with an overly excited presenter with big eyes. we could have done with longer there but the last train was at 11.30 and we only got there at 8 (due to Tubz being the slowest person in the world!). today me and jim went over to sentosa island and will and tubz left to go up to KL. it's a really nice place but so tourist-driven it's just like a big thorpe park, we did go to the underwater world there though, where i could test out my new camera. we saw sharks being fed and we found nemo! it was a really nice place. after that we headed to orchard road to buy a book for the impending flight to Cairns and get me some bite cream as i have lots of interesting looking ones with different colours coming out of them :) tonight we're planning on having a quiet one, watching a film and having a bit to eat hopefully. not sure of our plans tomorrow but we fly out at about 10.30 tomorrow evening, so i'll write to you when i have something fun to tell you about our travels in Cairns!
