Firstly, we're sorry it's been so long since the last entry and secondly...it is sooo cold here now, it feels like home!
Ok, so since last time, we've been up to a little bit including gigs, trips and introducing Henry to Melbourne.
About 6 weeks ago ish, we went to Rod Laver Arena to what was one of our best gigs ever, and we've been to a few in out time! Coldplay was amazing, very musical from the Engliash lads who made us feel very patriotic, very colourful and we were an arm's reach away from Chris Martin at some moments, something we'll never forget. Then 2 weeks later we re-visited the Arena to see a band Gary has been dying to see for about 4 years (like Claire's desperation to see Billy Elliott)...Kings Of Leon, we were not as close as when we saw Coldplay but never the less we heard them, all we have to say is that a band like that needs a small venue!
Gary turned 22 in March and we visited a beautiful place, the wine region of the Yarra Valley. We stayed in a stunning retreat, sipped fine wine and drank a glass/bottle of a gorgeous Chandon for Leigh (it was my birthday Leigh, and we toasted to you, something's not right!). We visited some unbeleivable sites that were burnt during the bush fires, really hits you when you see it for real, a lady scribbled out one town on the map as it had completely gone. We were happy knowing that our money was helping rebuild the area and I say money...did we spend or what!!!
Next on the list was Daylesford/Hepburn Springs, another place effected by the bush fires. The area is nicknamed 'The Pink Dollar' as it's well known for, erm, men who like to look after themselves far too much then they should! Loads of spa's and retreats meaning big bucks, we had a brass bath in the middle of our bedroom and 4 wasps got into the room to start a panic attack! We drank natral spring water from the Hepburn Springs...won't be doing that again!, visited a stunning lake and one of us had a 2 hour relaxing massage thing whilst the other read a paper...Again more fine wine, food and a walk around a lavender farm (Little Lavendula). Both Yarra Valley and Daylesford had out of this world views and scenery, something we're both stunned by and wanting more!
So Henry arrived and we met him at the airport to take him back to our pad, (Leigh, you were right in that he eats loads, he finished my cereal the first night he got here!). We both worked the his first day but from Gary's directions (which were fantastic) he found himself in the city meeting Claire for lunch and buying trainers! The three of us spent the weekend doing touristy stuff and for the first real time, we both felt like locals! Henry never felt jet lagged untill he kept falling asleep at wierd times, even on the tram about 4pm! Aparently he is playing Aussie rules up in Albury and driving 4 wheel drives to work? Sounding like he's having a great time!
So Henry left and we spent more time working to save for Asia and more trips away to see more of Victoria.
Easter was a bit different to what we usually know, we had a long weekend in Ararat/Grampians which is where our housemate is from. We stayed with their friends in an incredible house and did incredible Aussie things, we even had a cooked breakfast one morning...from the barbie! How Aussie is that?! We visited a Reservoir (Lake Bellfield) which the panaramic view was awesome and spookily quiet, a tiny little town called Falls Creek where it is offensive not to have a vanilla slice or ice cream...we had both!, and McKenzie Falls which was a waterfall with one hell of walk too, going down was fine but after a ton of ice cream going up was, oh wait, we hadn't had all that yet!! It was a cool weekend, treated and eat so well and was nice to spend time with our housemates.
We plan to go to Phillip Island this weekend, hopefully with Henry. Will update you all again soon, not too long this time!!
Love you all, hope you're all well and enjoying out famous Engliash spring time!
Claire and Gary x
