Day 35, 22nd February
Before leaving our hotel in Koh Phangan we had to quickly book a hotel for Koh Samui....nothing like leaving it to the last minuet. We found one that had okish reviews and booked in just for the 1 night.
We got picked up by taxi to the ferry port but this time we decided to go for the fast boat as it was only 50 bhat dearer around 2 quid extra. Included in our ferry price we had a transfer to our hotel included but we didn't realise you had to tell them where you were going before you got on the boat as they organise the transportation ready for when you arrive. We got there explained our situation to a woman (well a man) she told us to head for coach 7 which was going to Lamai Beach. Another woman started to shout at us asking where we were going we explained again and she told us to wait.
Not long after she told us to follow her and put us on a minibus, it wasn't until we got to the Chewang Beach Hotel that and no one got off did we realised she'd put us on the wrong resort bus, just our luck. The driver rang the woman with Mel having to talk to her and TELL her that we were getting off the bus we had paid for in the wrong resort as it was her fault and there was no way we were paying for a taxi. The driver continued taking everyone else to there hotels in Chewang and we thought we were being taken to Lamai until he stopped turned off the engine and told us we had to get out! After about 20 minuets of us arguing with him and refusing to get out of the bus until he took us to our hotel we were then on our way...no tip for him!
The day started to get better though as when we checked into our hotel the manager said as we were only staying 1 night he would upgrade us free of charge from a fan to air conditioned room excellent. He was really helpfull and gave us information on extending our visa on the island again and telling us to avoid the metre taxi's.
We got a burger from the hotel resturant that was by the beach and swimming pool and then decided to walk to the shops and main town which were about 15 minuets away. We stopped in the Churchill bar for a quick drink moving onto the Irish bar for a cocktail and then eating at the Ozzie sports bar.
We headed back to the hotel, the walk back a little more scarier than on the way as it was dark.
Day 36, 23rd February
As the air conditioning didn't work in our room it was boiling hot when we woke up. We got dressed and decided that we would mention the problem and see if we could stay an extra night at the same rate but maybe change to a different room.
After breakfast we got a taxi to the immigration office for our visa's much quicker than the last journey we only had to wait for an hour.
It was a bit harder to get a taxi to Chewang but eventually we got one and negotiated the same price as on the way...if only it were that simple haha The driver stopped to drop other people off at the ferry port and decided that we then had to switch trucks after telling us we still had to pay the same price, we refused and the new taxi driver sorted it for us so we didn't pay him at all. It took ages well over an hour to get to Chewang and by then we were hungry so decided we deserved pizza hut!
We walked around for a while trying to find a hotel or bungalow and eventually managed to get a room in the Lek City hotel for 700 thb a night just 2 minuets from the beach and right in the centre. We got a drink at the Ark bar on the beach before getting a taxi back to Lamai where we went to the English bar had one drink as it was dead in there and ended up back in the Irish bar where they had a live band the Samui Shamrock...not the best.
When we got back to our room we were really happy to find the air con had been fixed and it was like a fridge.
Day 37, 24th February
Had to pack up our stuff for the move to Chewang, we checked put and walked to the main road to flag down a taxi. It didn't take too long and we were soon on our way although the taxi driver or his wife who was sat in the front with him didn't seem to know where it was. We got to a one way road where he pointed to us saying it was up the road but as we'd done the walk yesterday with out our bags we knew there was no way we could walk it so we were on our way again. He stopped again after 10 minuets or so still clearly not knowing where the hotel was and tried to get us to get out as with all our taxi experience we stayed put until he rang the hotel to find out where it was.
After checking in we decided as there we lots of new shops that we would have a wonder round the town, where we found a little bar on the street selling cocktails for 79 thb. We found a resturant and after feeding our bellies we headed back to the cheap bar and sat there for a few hours where there were some fireworks.
When we had enough to drink we headed back to bed but what we didn't notice when we found the hotel was that there was a Caberet bar dead opposite the hotel on the side where our bedroom is. We went to watch the rest of the show as there was no way we'd get to sleep even with ear plugs in. The music didn't stay on for that long after the show had finished but you could still hear music from other clubs/bars in the area till around 4am.
Day 38, 25th February
Didn't do much today we decided that we would chill out an have a full body massage after this we also had out feet soaked which was so much better than Dr Fish and we had baby soft footsies again.
We did a bit more shopping as didn't fancy the beach and soon found the spot where our cheap little bar was the night before although as it was open we walked through the ground to find it was actually part of a hotel on the beach so we still got our frozen strawberry cocktails whilst playing jenga.
That night we decide we should try the Ice Bar which apparently they have all around the world, it was brilliant you go into a normal bar where they give you a massive poncho and white fur hat to put on then show you to what looks like a large freezer door being minus 7 you can feel the need for the coat and hat they have ice sculptures of a tuk tuk and chairs and tables made out of ice pretty cool.
Day 39, 26th February
Today we wanted to do some sun bathing on the beach but what we didn't realise when we got there was that the sand was really wet so after not long of sitting down our towels and clothes that we were using as a pillow was absolutely soaked and as it was very comfortable we gave up on the sun bathing and decided to go back and get ready for the evening.
After talking to the barman from Bar Ice the night before he told us where to find the cheaper bars so we headed there where they do 241 buckets. I decided to give Sangsom a try as i don't mind rum but it was discusting and had to have extra redbull, wont be trying that again.
Day 40, 27th February
Today we had our jeep safari in the morning we had a few stops the first being a mummified monk who was wearing Ray Bans (i'm guessing to cover the holes where his eyes would have been) and then were taken to the Namuang Safari Park for elephant trekking which was really funny our elephant was obviously really hungry as he kept bending down to eat the grass, we thought a few times we were gonna fall off. We then saw an elephant show where they did a thai massage, did tug of war, played football and lots of other cool tricks. The Monkey and crockdile shows were no where near as good even if someone did put there head in the crocks mouth haha. Also included was a waterfall for swimming and trekking before taking us to a mountain view point for lunch and moving on to the magic gardens.
When we got back we enjoyed a yummy sunday roast our 2nd since being away. We got a few drinks for our room deciding to head out to the bars a bit later tonight as the music channels on the tv are pants we opened our window listening to the clubs music the bright side of being opposite a club haha.
We ended up in the cheap bars where we ended up getting some free tequila shots, then moved onto find a night club that give free vodka away until the limited bottles run out. We soon got a bit bored of the music and moved onto a club where we bumped in to the same people from the first bar whilst ordering drink and turns out they had paid for them for us even though we weren't with them bargain!!!
