Day 28, 15th February
Leaving for Koh Phangan today the taxi picked us up to take us to the ferry port and as usual drop you farthest away from the dock your boat is actually leaving from. We finally got to the correct dock which was the very last one where you have to drag you bags over the sand to get to the dock typical for Thailand and for us as we always book the cheapest form of transport haha. We managed to get to the boat and were expecting a little help with our bags but nooooo they just shoved us and our bags on, help was only given when the staff on the boat saw Mel struggling up the steps with hers.
When we got to the island we hadn't had email confirmation that our hotel the Baan Haad Yao Villas would be picking us up from the port so were pretty shocked when things were actually going to plan for us!! We checked in, got some food at the hotel resturant which wasn't the best and then went off to explore the beach and find a travel agent to get some visa information. However the agents in Haad Yao weren't the best so we ended up getting a taxi back to the ferry port village where we managed to book our visa run to Malaysia for the next day.
By then we were pretty hungry so we stopped in a resturant one that served Strongbow (god how i have missed a good pint on Cider!!) In the mean time though everything we tried to order on the menu they chef didn't seem to be able to cook so we drank up and left heading for the Mason's Arms a traditional english pub with a beer garden and sausage, mash and gravy mmmmm.
It was quite late then so we got a taxi back to the hotel and headed to bed for our early morning!!
Day 29, 16th February
Up at 4am ready for our taxi pick up at 4:20 to the ferry port. I wasn't best pleased when we got there to find it was actually a car ferry and we had to walk on where the cars were all driving in to park. The boat took about 2.5 hrs and as soon as we got there we were transfered to a mini bus to head for the Thai/Malaysia border. There were not 2 seats together so i ended up sitting next to a woman that had a manky p**** limp on her leg so i tried to sit as far away from her as possible haha.
As the mini bus journey was over 4 hours i got talking to the woman who turned out to be English and was over here to learn Thai Boxing, it turned out that's how she ended up with the injury apparently it is a typical for thail boxers to get this.....still it was pretty gross!!!!!!!!
Things at the border went pretty smoothly for us first getting our departure stamp from Thailand, then getting our entrance and departure stamp from Malaysia to head back to the Thailand office for a new 2 week stamp!!! When we got back to our minibus however one guy who had over stayed his visa stamp was still in the first office being interviewed, We waited awhile and then the driver must have had enough of waiting and usherd us back on to the bus taking the guys coat off and replacing him with a new person....
On the way back to the ferry port we stopped off at a rest stop and felt quiet relieved when about 10 minuets later another minibus turned up and the poor guy that had been left behind was with them!!
We got back to the ferry port with just enough time to get on the 6:30pm boat otherwise we'd have had to wait until 11pm. We sat on the sun deck until it got dark and then decided to go down stairs where they had lights. When we got back to Koh Phangan we decided to head straight to the Mason's Arms for tea again after such a long day were were absolutely starving.
Day 30, 17th February
After such a long exhausting day yesterday we got up pretty late heading for the beach to get some brunch.
We then lazed by the hotel pool gardens for the rest of the day, burning in the sun.
Had a late tea on the beach and sipped a couple of cocktails releasing all the stress from the day before ha ha.
Day 31, 18th February
Today was pretty much the same as yesterday making the most of having nothing to do we again grabbed some lunch on the beach as the hotel was too far away from anywhere else to walk to and lazed by the pool after the sun had started to go down as we were still feeling a bit burnt from yesterdays 3rd degree burns.
We had bough some vodka in our lo9cal shop and since we had a huge balcony with a partial sea view we decided to make the most of it and then headed back to the beach for tea and more cocktails....not the cheapest things to drink but a must really!!!
Day 32, 19th February
We decided to stay out of the sun for the morning and booked our taxi to the Full Moon beach party for this evening.
Again we sat on the balcony having a few drinks before we started to get ready for the party as we were expecting drinks there to be really expensive.
We walked back to the beach resturant where our taxi picked us up as it was pretty full me and Mel had to sit up front with the driver (the owner of the resturant) he didn't really seem to happy to have to be driving us but was really friendly and was chatting to us most of the way... we could understand most of what he was saying but was a bit of a struggle!!
When he dropped us off we got our entrance bracelets and headed to the beach there thousands of people there and plenty of stalls through the streets selling vodka mix bucket for 150 bhat loads cheaper than we were expecting. On the beach there were loads more bars and we pick the Cactus bar as our meeting spot incase we got split up which never happened! Unlike the beach at Haad Yao the bars music didn't all mesh into one big blur and they were all playing different types of music. As most of the beaches we have been too they had fire shows still not as good as the 2 guys in Koh Tao but still impressive we watched them until the smell of the parafin or whatever they use was burning our nostrills and couldn't breath.
As we'd decided not to have tea...after all eating cheating haha we actually decided that we were really hungry and grabbed a burger. We danced, met quite a few ozzie's and sat on the beach until around 4am ish when we decided to get a taxi back to the hotel, who i argued with apparently over the cost although at that time in the morning and considering we had about a 20 minuet drive 200 bhat was actually a bargain!!
Day 33, 20th February
A very lazy day again today sleeping until 1ish, we got up feeling a bit worse for wear as you would expect and decided that we should eat so headed to our normal spot the beach where i forced myself to eat atleast half of my chicken fried rice!
We lazed round by the pool for a few hours and then decided we needed a bit of a cool down so went back to our nice air conditioned room. We soon felt better appetites were back so we had some tea avoiding alcohol at all costs tonight.
Day 34, 21st February
Woke up feeling a bit hanging with a head ache today still from the Full Moon party hangover.
We pretty much did the same as yesterday, sun bathing by the pool but as i had finished all 5 books that me an Mel had brought i had to listen to my ipod for a bit of a change. It was a bit cloudy and as there was a really nice breeze we didn't think we'd caught the sun until we got back to our room not as burnt as the other day though.
We then had to pack as we were leaving the next morning for Koh Samui.
