Hi All!
After having a little rest after we arrived yesterday morning we headed out to sort our arrangements for Cambodia. Firstly, we bumped into a guy who tried to explain where the nearest TAT (Tourist Authority Thailand) was situated. This took a good 10mins as he just kept repeating himself. When we finally got away another guy started chatting to us, asking where we were from, how long were we staying there etc. He ended up walking us to the TAT just to make sure we got there safety. We were then greated by overly friendly girls in the TAT, one of which sat us down and told us our options for getting to Cambodia. Basically it came down to getting a flight there because it would only take an hour compared to 10 in a bus. Also we were likely to get cheated out of a lot of money at the border by the army (and its not like you are really going to argue with them when they are standing there with a gun). As we were going to be flying by Air Asia I decided it might be a good idea to check out the prices on the net as they were likely to be less than the price the TAT were quoting. We told them that we needed to find an internet place just to check our finances etc so they ended up sending one of the girls with us to show us where to go. To get there we had to cross a main road. Now ive crossed a few roads in my time but the girl obviously didnt think I would manage this one so she grabbed my hand and actually didnt let go until we arrived at the hotel, where we could use the computers.
The online price was a lot better so we got that sorted. When we were finished the girl was still standing there to take us back. So grabbing my hand again as we crossed that road, we headed back to TAT. We told the other girl that we had got it sorted online, but that wasnt before one of the other girls had presented us with a nice cold drink. Felt a little guilty.
So we are off to Cambodia tomorrow, on a nice early flight at 7am!
Today we spent the whole day at the most amazing market! 15,000 stalls - selling jeans, to jewellry to puppies - what more could you want?! As most girls will appreciate (and some guys) that when hardcore shopping its nice to have a bit of an order to follow. Unfortunately this place seems to be completely random in its set up. We thought we had covered it all and then found a whole other section which took us a good few hours to get around! Thankfully the whole place is covered so you dont have the sun beating down on you while you're trying to haggle. And you really can haggle in these places as there is so much competition!
One area we struggled to leave was the animal section. We couldnt believe how young these puppies were and how cheap they were going for - approx the price of a meal. We watched as people just came up, fiddled around, picking up and throwing down the various puppies and then buying one, and walking away with it. If we could have easily brought one back with us to england we really would have done (you know you would have loved it mum and dad!)
After a fairly successful day there, we headed back to the hotel to sort out our stuff for Cambodia. We have decided just to take our small day bags as we dont need much and really cant be bothered to carry our big ones with us. Fair to heavy at this stage!
Right must go - a movie has just started on HBO - so exciting having a tv in our room! (it really has become the little things in life!)
Next stop...Cambodia!
