Claire's Travels
Hi Everyone!
Sorry I've been a little rubbish recently and havent written one of these for well over a week! Ok so let me give you a run down of what we've been up to...
well we decided to move from Penang on the 11th. Our mini bus was due to pick us up at 5am that morning so we sorted our bags out the night before (allowing us a little more sleep in the morning!) Thankfully we had done this because we woke to find that the power had gone in Penang - great timing! So we struggled around with our head torches and were making our way down the incredibly steep steps when the owner suddenly appeared. He helped us down and waited with us in the kitchen until the bus arrived. Well at 5.30am it still hadnt arrived and the owner hadnt allowed us to wait outside as he said it would be dangerous with the lack of light.
Thankfully it appeared and to amke it even better it was a luxury mini bus - not bad! We settled back and half slept until we arrived at the border. Got through with no problems and were given a visa. Then we moved again until the guy radomly stopped to let out a couple of girls who were going to Ko Samui. Thought it was a little strange as we seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, but we had been told that we were being taken to the ferry so we werent concerned...until he stopped and told us this was the drop off point for Ko Phi Phi. We were in the middle of some random street in a random town. Anyway, we were directed into a office and told that another mini bus would be picking us up to take us to the ferry.
This one finally arrived and we got on. Well I've never been so scared for my life and that really is no exaggeration! This guy drove like his life depended on it. Ever time he went over a certain speed the bus starting making some weird warning noise. We were taking sharp bends at well over 70mph. To make matters a little worse he was on the brink of falling asleep.
Thankfully we made it..but only to another office. Another van picked us up and took us to the port. Well a port. Then we were picked up by a coach and it took us to the actual port. We boarded a very full and hot ferry and made our way over to Ko Phi Phi
we had booked our accommodation already. so a little guy picked up our bags and took us to the Andaman Beach Resort. We have a little bungalow and is about 30m to the pool and a further 30m to the sea. SOOOOOO NICE!!!
So over the last week we have sat back and relaxed - normal routine is as follows:
Get up and put sun cream on (hate the stuff!!)
Go to one of the local restaurants for breakfast
Head into town and pick up some fresh fruit and water
Walk onto the beach and pull up a deck chair
Chill and swim for the next 6 or so hours
Walk home
Shower
Go out for cocktails and dinner.
Not bad I think you will all agree!!
The island itself is really nice. Not too big or small. The people are all really friendly. For the past couple of nights we have ended up in a bar / restaurant called Carpe Diem because they do a fire show which is pretty amazing!
Have some really good videos of it but they wont let me put them on the journal. Its such a great place it relax and have a cocktail as the place is covered with turkish cushions and candles. The staff are all really nice as well and they've got to know us to stop and chat. Always good to have a local where ever you are...and this beats all of the pubs at home!
Not quite sure when we are going to move on. We still want to do a boat trip around the island and visit the beach where they filmed 'the beach'. We also plan to visit Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan, Ko Tao, Phuket, Bangkok and Cambodia. So still quite a bit to do but we are struggling to move on as its the first place in 6months that we've been able to properly lay back and relax.
Right on that note I'm off for a cocktail and dinner! Its a hard life!
Hope you are all keeping well. By the way the photo the a picture of the beach opposite where we are staying. Not bad eh?!
Take care x x x
