Hi everyone! So we are now in Penang. Journey here was fairly interesting. We were happily sitting on the bus on our way to the island when the driver started shouting something so everyone got off and got onto another bus, except for 3 french girls. The driver kept saying that the ferry will be quicker to George Town (the main town on the island). we thought that thats where are accommodation was but we couldnt quite remember. So we decided to stay on the bus and be dropped off at the ferry port. Got on the ferry for a huge 17p and made our way slowly over to the island. We were able to get straight into a cab which was handy. As we were driving through the streets we were a little concerned that we had picked a bit of a dodgey area. However, all was ok when we pulled up to stardust, our hostel. The owner is so friendly and he sat us down and told us all the good places to visit. Our room is really big too and its only costing us 2.37 quid a night...bargain! That evening we sat and watched a few films (he puts the most recent films on every night!) and had some dinner. By far the best meal i've had for ages and only for 60p1 This place is a must if you are visiting here! Yesterday we set off to visit some of the sights...actually we covered quite a few in one day: Cornwallis Fort Goddess of Mercy temple Sri Manoman Temple Acheen St Mosque Kapitan keling mosque City Hall Esplanade Clock Tower St Georges Church Parigan mall Little India and China Town They are all within easy walking distance around the town. That night we watched Ray and Capote (both excellent films) and ate some more excellent food! Today we set off to Batu Ferringhi as there is a beach there. unfortunately when we arrived it started to pour down..thats why im currently writing this! So now its stopped we are going to head back out there! Hope you are all well! Let me know what you are all up to! xxx
