Caught the bus to Melaka this morning which is a historical colonial town, that was once ruled by the Portugese, Dutch, Britain, Japan and now Malaysia!
We decided not to book accommodation so wandering round in the hottest sun ever with a heavy backpack and failed attempts on 3-4 hotels was loads of fun! We eventually caught a taxi to a little place called Tony's and thankfully it was available!
However...when putting down our bags we noticed something walking on top of Dave's bag, something which has got to be the travellers worst nightmare...a bed bug. So after thoroughly checking all our stuff we found 6 of the little blood sucking critters in total hiding in the seams and sleeping bags.
Following some research on the net, we read up on the lovely news at how they crawl into luggage and decide to either lay eggs or just join you on the trip to the next place which they then infest. Great. They must have decided to join us in KL so this was wonderful news for us!
Now, the main way to kill them is to wash EVERYTHING in boiling hot water, tumble dry and then vacuum - you know, all the things that we can get to quite easily out here...so the only real option was the drastic, throw all of our stuff away! In the end we decided to just wash our clothes and hope that they dont like us and leave us alone.
They say bad luck comes in 3's - After Claire dropped and smashed her mirror the other day, we've lost $50, broke a watch and have now been blessed with the company of bed bugs. Hopefully, fingers crossed, we'll be ok for a bit now...
