Today was the day we decided to do the most talked about activity in Laos - Tubing.
It certainly puts our all dayers under the culvert to shame. First of all we got a rubber ring ( a tube ) from the tubing store (where else?),then we got crammed into a tuk tuk and taken 5km up river and dropped off and left competley alone with just our tubes!
We got straight in the river immediatley started to drift down stream. After about a hundred metres a bamboo cane was thrown in our direction from a bar, we grabbed a hold of it and were pulled to the shore. We were first greeted by a free shot of Lao Lao which is 'rice whiskey' and strong enough to strip paint. We settled with out first beer of the day/morning on a bamboo platform full of other tubers - where we watched several people fly down the attached zip slide into the river. After we'd had enough of this first bar we got back in our tubes and drifted again downstream before getting roped into anther bar, which again had a massive rope swing atached to it - this is tubing! It is well good fun!
We stopped off at many of these bars down the river and after a few more lao lao we decided to call it a day, not before venturing into the last bar on the river, which also happened to have the largest rope swing of the lot! It was a little scary seeing a few of the lads jumping off it who had had way to much to drink!
We did get some funny videos of this one of us both on the swing - Dave not being able to hold on (Lao Lao) and Claire not being able to let go, with legs kicking, and if you listen closely you can hear her scream!
After tubing for 8 hours straight we got back a little tired, so had a well deserved rest and relaxed in a bar with a film and pizza!
