After the problems of the previous couple of days, and the fact that we had a night extension to Animal Kingdom, we took today rather slowly. Rather than grabbing breakfast at the hotel we walked over to Disney Springs to have a look around while it was quiet and empty. We did, unfortunately, drop into the ‘Earl of Sandwich’ for breakfast, which was, as Matthew described, ‘minuscule and disappointing’. I don’t know whether other shops have bigger servings, but this one was pathetic; except of course for the drinks, which were huge.
We got the bus to transfer us to the park and arrived at about 5:30. Now this is the way to experience Disney! We walked over and watched ‘A Bug’s Life’ which is an interactive 3D movie based on the film. We do get sprayed with ‘acid’ and endure the smell of a stink bug, ending with the slightly uncomfortable feeling of bugs leaving the theatre and you feel little protuberances on your back and butt as they move out. From here we went to the Dino USA area. Yes, they have to get the name in somewhere. We went on a ride called ‘Primeval Whirl’ which is a slightly mild roller coaster except that the vehicle can go into ‘free spin’ mode and you can end up going backwards over a bump. By this stage, we had to get our night passes and left Sue in order to do the ‘Himalayan Expedition’, a much faster and extreme roller coaster based around an expedition which gets confronted by the Yeti. We walked on. Yes, no Fast Pass, just walked on. Completed the ride and walked on again. Ok, we did walk fast to get back quickly. We did this 4 times before we decided to head to Pandora and see what the lines were like for ‘Flights of Passage’.
This ride saw you strapped onto a bike frame, and was then an active simulation ride on the back of a Banshee, dropping massive heights and soaring through waves and caves. Absolutely A-MAZE-ING! Even Sue managed to get on it and the smile on her face certainly made all of the travel worth it. You had to wear 3D glasses with it and it was like the ‘Soaring’ ride on steroids. We left Sue in the gift shop and went again, and left this for a boring ride along a Pandora river; dull, and this was a ride with a normal wait of 70 minutes. Best day at Disney.
