Cindy Aserkoff's Travels
Estonia has the most robust economy of the Baltic countries. Estonians as a people are known as slow, deliberate, shy, standoffish, extremely honest, unemotional. However they are credited with the singing revolution. All Estonians sing at at young age. There is a singing competition that involves 30000 singers. As many as 200000 people attend the festival. During the soviet occupation the festival was used a peaceful way to protest. We went the place where the festival is held. We then visited the tv tower that was a tense scene between soviet tanks and the population. The standoff ended with the Soviets leaving. Independence was declared very soon after. The rest of the morning was spent walking around the old town of Tallinn. The old town has cobbled streets, cafes, shops, and restaurants, and 14th and 15th century buildings. To sum up, a description of Estonians as extroverts stare at your shoes, introverts stare at their own shoes
