I headed out to Sai Kung this morning, by metro and little green bus and twas a tad disappointed. Sai Kung was packed, it's the October break and you could barely move for the thronging crowds. Sai Kung is a wild peninsula in Hong Kong's east but it's main town was a tourist trap. I figured the islands I was planning to hop would be packed so I followed MapsMe on some remote trails down a little trodden peninsula.
I was rewarded with gorgeous views of Hong Kong's jungle clad mountain scenery. It was seeringly hot today though a layer of smog makes it look cloudy. At least the forest provided plenty shade. I made it to a packed beach, took a ferry across a bay and made it back to my hostel.
It's National Day in the PRC, a memorial day here in Hong Kong. 70 years since the totalitarian fascist (supposedly communist) regime took the helm in China, from which it invaded and annexed Tibet and Turkestan. Hong Kongers, not too happy about the prospect of being governed by these genocidal maniacal devils have done a lot of protesting recently.
Unfortunately, they were protesting very near my hostel! Nathan Road, the big road near my hostel was in lock down earlier, the sounds of sirens buzzing. With molotov cocktails and real bullets being thrown around, tonight is not a night to venture far!
Ciao!
