Headed to Macao today!
Macao is the Portuguese version of Hong Kong, though it was Portuguese for several hundred years more than Hong Kong was British. Taking the ferry to Macao was very easy, just taking the metro the ferry terminal and boarding the next ferry. You still have to pass immigration as both these Special Administrative Regions have seperate immigration policies.
Macao is split into 2 key parts. The south is ritzy glitzy casinos but not much else. So I went to the North. This involved a long walk through grotty overcrowded working class suburbs before finally reaching the colonial architecture. I mainly just walked around the colonial streets, buzzing with glitzy western shops next to a variety of food stalls, packed with Mainland Chinese tourists.
It was also very hot! Did slightly detract from the enjoyment. But the architecture was nice! And nice to have some Pataca.
Back in HK now, nice being able to take in an area of the world at a more chill pace.
Ciao!
