God, if you're there, please just burn all Honduran ATMs. All of them. Thanks.
Will explain later.
It was a slow start to the day.
I got disappointingly little sleep given how much time I had...largely cos it's so dam hot in El Tunco (well, in Central America generally to be honest) and fans are so dam loud!
My transfer to Copan arrived at 12 and was effectively private. It was just me in a minibus listening to Dua Lipa while a sleepy Honduran navigated Salvadoran traffic jams, queues of Guatemalan banana trucks and two border crossings - both were seemless.
The fastest route was actually through the eastern edge of Guatemala, which meant El Salvador had the opportunity to give me one last utter soaking at the border crossing. The weather drastically cleared up in Guatemala, which gladly I'm returning to so its not as if the only part of that country I'll see is some service stations and banana plantations.
The Honduran border crossing was a bit more difficult. By that I mean the guy was a bit of an arse. He inspected closely my stamps - asking me to point out which ones were from which countries. It felt as if he was trying to trick me up on something - to be fair I do have about 6 or 7 from the last 10 days...
Then I got to Copan. Copan is lovely, although it definitely has the feel of - 'relaxed, quiet, peaceful tourist town...that happens to be in the world's most murderous country/borderline failed state and so you still need to be careful...'.
Things got very tasty indeed at the end of last year when in fact the British government advised against all travel to Honduras on grounds of political violence due to the 're-election' of the country's latest deluded demagouge to wear the presidential banner - Juan Orlando Hernandez.
But then...there's Honduran ATMs.
THEY DON'T ACCEPT MASTERCARD!
Well, one of them does, but you have to have a Honduran phone number that the ATM sends an SMS to, to confirm its you taking the money...
Ughhh so I had to use my Santander, which whilst it decided to decline a 3usd deposit for a transfer, had no issue withdrawing from a Honduran ATM...
But it will probably cost me a zillion.
Anyways...
Vamos!
