Nadeen's Paris birthday today.....last night we celebrated her Melbourne birthday so today it is her Paris birthday.....
Took another walk down the Champs Elysees - you just do not tire of seeing this place - then walked to the Louvre. Planning is everything they say, as after reaching the Louvre, we found out it wasnt open on Tuesdays!!! Not to worry, we got a real appreciation of how big this place is and the 3 hours that we had allocated to visiting the museum would not have done justice to the visit anyway....we will just have to come back another time!!!
After the Louvre we had some lunch - another celebratory drnk for the birthday girl - then hit the subway to have a look around Paris. We ended up at a nice little village of Montmatre - if you are ever over this neck of the woods - put it on your list - quaint little French village in the suburbs of Paris and has wonderful views overlooking the city. After Montmatre we decided to check out the Moulin Rouge so as we knew where to go to later that night - what an iconic place this is.....it just sits in the middle of a suburban shopping strip and it even has an O'Sullivans bar alongside it....
We safely navigated our way back to our hotel to change for the dinner and show at the Moulin Rouge. The dinner and show is hard to describe - it is definitely a MUST do if you are ever in Paris. Hang the expense, just do it!!!
We entered the room and you are not permitted to take any cameras inside with you - absolutely no photography is allowed inside - and we were shown to our seats. We thought they were pretty close to the stage - we were sitting at the third table from the front and were seated with two other Australian couples and a couple from Switzerland. We all had a great night chatting to one another during the dinner, however when the show started, there was no time for idle chat....
Before the show started, they introduced another stage - which literally came up to the table we were sitting at. So instead of being three tables from the front, we were now literally alongside the stage!!! You could not have got better seats if we tried and we were so close, I could have touched the performers.....
What can we say about the show.......adjectives do not do justice to the show - colourful, extravagent, entertaining, risque, spectacular.....the list goes on. The costumes have to be seen to be believed - that is those costumes that some of the dancers wear.....the colours are vibrant and the whole show which lasts 2 hours goes in a flash.
In between costume changes, they have other acts to entertain the crowd - we had a juggler, a ventriliquist and an acrobat act.
Megan, you would have loved the whole experience!
One of the acts in the show, actually had the stage transform into a swimming pool and one of the dancers dived into the pool and swam with two pythons - unbelieveable!!!! And we were sitting right alongside the pool so could see straight through it.
A great way of finishing the celebrations for Nadeen's birthday!!!
We caught the subway home - again no troubles with the public transport system here - so our time in Paris is nearly at an end.
Clearly not enough time to appreciate what this city has to offer, but the time we had here has been memorable to say the least.
