Christinas travels!
After travelling 6,000 miles and 12 hours on a plane I arrived in Thailand. I didnt think they would allow me whilst I was waiting to go through immigration as there was a sign saying anyone flying from Africa had to have proof of all the vaccinations listed - some of the ones listed Id not had!! The travel clinic in UK gave me what I thought was all I needed but you just dont know. Anyway when I filled in the forms at immigration I said I had come from Singapore as I had touched down there in the plane for an hour! So I was let in without any questions luckily...
Its a complete contrast to the quiteness of South Africa where Id spent the first part of the trip . Its all hussle and bussle and cars and people rushing around. I dont think I could of stayed here long but it was interesting to see the sites I did. The humidly is hard to deal with as its hot all day and night and even though it looks overcast in some of the pictures it was defintely not cold!
The Grand Palace at Bangkok was pretty impressive to visit. You are expected to dress appropriately or risk being turned away so I had to go and buy a cool long sleeve top and covered shoes. Everything is ridiculously cheap so I would of been able to live like a queen for next to nothing. I was spending about 2 pounds a day on food and that was eating well!
We also took a journey on a longtail boat and went along the Chao Phraya river. You go past all sorts of houses on stilts from ones that look like they are going to fall down any minute to nicer ones which I took and have added to the photo album. You also see the floating markets where people trade there goods on the river. There is one to a much grander scale further out of Bangkok but didnt get chance to see that.
