Well, I thought this would be the best time to write again folks as myself and Steve have now completed both our bungee jump and our skydive, thankfully in one piece!
We only arrived in New Zealand on the 11th but in 4 short days we have managed to throw ourselves 40m off the side of a bridge into the harbour below with nothing but an elastic band round our ankles and then proceeded to hurl ourselves out of a plane at 12,000ft with nothing but a small Japanese man strapped to our backs (who by the way was called Tuks). I must quickly just say sorry to my Mom however as I never told her that I would be doing either of these things and did get a rather stern warning before I left.
I must admit that I much preferred the skydive to the jump (Steve's nodding to) but I do have the DVD of the Bungee to bring home which clearly shows me slapping the instructor upside the head as he tried to get from under my arm before I took him with me, good times.
Although both were terrifying it was nice to be told that the guy on our tandem skydives was actually in the world cup (I didn't know they had one either) and he is ranked 46th in the world at skydiving so that made it slightly less nerveracking when the plane door swung open and I was thrown out of it in a very embarrasing, and very tight, jumpsuit. I got the stats off their site for you to look at incase your interested;
Exit Altitude 12,000 feet Freefall Distance 7,000 feet Freefall time 45-55 seconds Freefall speed up to 200 kph Time under parachuteabout 5 minutes
I couldn't belive it only took us 45 secs to fall 7000ft but there you go.
As you can imagine, after all this excitement Steve and I have pretty much spent the time in between to chill out and have a look around. Unfortunately we haven't got the time to leave Auckland itself so we are making the most of this beautiful city as best we can, even visiting the 'Kelly Tarltons Antarctic Adventure and Underwater World' which to be honest is a much more impressive name for what is essentially a small Sealife Centre but still we had a good few hours there and the Rays were pretty impressive to watch as well.
Today we booked oursleves onto a trip around Fiji, taking in Nadi and the Robinson Crusoe Island for 3 nights which apparently is meant to be a little paradise so we are both looking forward to a week on the beach in the middle of January. There is no internet, possibly no mobile network coverage and we've been told to pack a torch so it really will be 3 nights entirely to ourselves and the beach which I think you'll agree is exactly what Steve and I need right now.
We have managed to get out one night after our bunjee jump (12th) with a couple of girls we met in the Balcony Bar here in the ACB Hostel who were new to the place as well. We had a pretty great night, meeting a lot of other travellers and a few locals as well even the odd drink here and there. We even got to sample a local live band which were really impressive after a few pints and at the same time, managed to bump into a stag doo with a group of really friendly blokes with the customary blow up doll, good times.
I have put a few photos up from Auckland but as I say, we haven't done that much in between stupid sports and even then I have taken some pics off google because the prices were extortionate (almost 80GBP for 30 Photos of me in a silly hat with goggles) so just use a little imagination.
So there you have it, that is our time so far in Auckland and the wonderful country of New Zealand. I wish we had more time to really explore this place as there is just so much to do. We could very easily have spent much much longer here. But we look forward to relaxing in Fiji now and trying to get a tan as unfortunatley neither me or Steve have one yet.
Keep checking the photos and leaving messages guys and we look forward to seeing you all VERY soon (15 days to be exact)
