It is the day before we leave beautiful, sunny Oz for equally beautiful and sunny New Zealand but we are still both feeling a little bit sorry for ourselves because this place has had
everything.
We spent a couple of days down in Melbourne and took in the sights of the Telstra Dome where they play their AFC but sounds more to me like a place you'd expect Arnie to go in a film but hey.
We
even got to go and see Ramsay St which was all good fun, little embarrasing but still good fun. Honestly though the street which is actually called Pin Oak Court is really small so I have no idea
how
they play cricket there in the show. At the end of the trip we got to meet a star as well and unfortunately for me it wasn't one of the Kennedy daughters nor Susan Kennedy for that matter but
somebody called Ginele (I don't even know if that's how it's spelt!) Anyway, when she jumped on the bus to say hi everyone cheered and looked shocked apart from me and Steve who just looked at
each
other hoping that one of us knew who the hell she was but it wasn't to be. If anyone can fill us in that would be great. Needless to say we didn't stop to get a photo with her or an autograph
which
slightly took our guide by suprise but she pointed us to the nearest tram station and we went on our way.
Across Australia we've found that there isn't any pubs per say and pretty much everywhere you go to drink a few pints is a hotel. It's not like you would expect a hotel bar to be though as
they
generally have seperate rooms dedicated to the bar and most are themed. As you can see in the photos I took the one hotel we went to in Melbourne had a Giraffe on the wall with a hat and scarf and
an
Osterich with a pearl necklace on, very odd. We also managed to find a bar that was basically a container off a ship and it had just been plonked in a carpark and that was it. Strangely, it had a
really good atmosphere and clearly was one of the more lively places around even though it was a pretty simple idea. One good thing about the drinking culture over here is that they dont have
offlicences and instead they have bottleshops dotted around and these even have drive-thrus! It's great fun driving through them in the van and the bloke just opens the boot and puts the crate of
beers in the back and you pay out the window. We should have these at home!!
While we have been in Sydney we have met a few mates along the way as well. We got taken to a Tapenyaki place which I had never heard of before but its a style of Japanese cooking where they
cook
it infront of you and then throw it at you and you have to try and catch it in a bowl, oh it was so much fun! I managed to leave with pretty much a whole omlette in my pockets, hair etc. I fully
recommend it to anyone for a party.
So its time for me and Steve to say all of our goodbyes to people so we are doing a fair bit of travelling around Sydney today, a few beaches and suburbs and so on (its a hard life but what
can
you do). But by 12pm tomorrow we will be in New Zealand getting ready for our feast of activity sports and as ever I will keep you up to date with how everything goes.
Oh and just incase you read this Stuart and Dave, unlucky eh boys. maybe next year you'll do a bit better. Still, well done against the Chelsea.
Speak to you all again soon.
