Our last 2 days in Phonm Penh we primarily spent viewing all the major sights and planning how we'd get to Vietnam.
Mr Meas, our driver, offered to take us to all the main sights:The killing fields, palaces, temples and markets...he did offer to take us to the shooting range (not the one where you can use rocket-launchers at Cows or AK-47 rifles at people some of you may of heard of.no joke).
Despite a couple of bad nights and rooms in the same hotel, eventually moving to a really nice one next door we saw some amazing sights in Phnom Penh:
The royal palace and surrounding temples.
The city's main temple Wat Phnom
The national musuem
The killing fields, where men, women & children were murdered and buried during the reign of Pol Pot.
Phnom Penh's riverside bars & restaurants.
And the 'Central' & 'Russian' (nothing Russian about them!!!) markets.
Our last night was spent with Mr Meas & two of his friends who had invited us to a Cambodian BBQ,on a very busy strip of restaurants, which was obviously popular with the locals...always a good sign!
We were introduced to roasted cow, lots of chili, peanuts, lemongrass,Cambodian cheese made from fish (going to have to double check that),veggies and plenty of Angkor Beer.
Apart from the bad experience of the bad hotel & the shock of having to pay $45 to get into Vietnam we loved Phonm Penh the city is a vibrant place with lovely people, great places to see & eat.
Bring on Saigon,Vietnam! real excited about this part! Don't even mind the morning 6 hour bus journey...I think.
