We arrived in Yosemite - unprepared in the dark - 10pm to find a car occupied our site - checked that we were on the list of arrivals for the day and drove round again - getting more and more tired now. It was our site, the campers next down had just put their truck on our car space. Fortunately CT had bought more torches and flashlights so that we could see where to put up the tent. Pumped up the beds and threw the kids into bed. Was concerned that the group of camper s next door would be talking all night - but no everyone adheres to the noise curfew - to the letter in fact with all the RV's sparking up their generators the minute it ends at 8am. In the morning the site sounds like a car park with trucks, generators, and cars all making their noise. Its extremely busy here and so far I couldn't see what the fuss was about Yosemite. In the night - there had been 2 very loud crashes - like explosions or thunder - but with no follow up. Turns out these were rock falls, and as we looked up through the forest roof of the campsite, we could see the sheer cliffs cut by the glacier. There was a lot to do here, horse riding, cycling, climbing, walking. And half of California was here to do it. The areas were spread out - with Yosemite Village, being 1.5 miles away from Curry Village, 3 campsites - pretty much the same all one next to another. And hordes of people. The parking for the visitor centre was a park and ride set up - being .5 or a mile away from the actual building. Next day got the girls back on the nags - the were nags - mules - big ones, and I had the slowest one in Yosemite - without even a name to spur her on - Maxime. No 1 and No 2 did very well - the minimum age being 7 so No 2 just made it. As we were up at 8am for the riding, we had time to do some school work at camp have lunch and then set off up to Glacier Point high above the valley. Took us about an hour to drive up there and the early start took its toll on me and the kids - all zonked out.Me and the girls walked down - 4.6 miles and took us just under two hours - I did frog march them - it was fun - hot and all down hill. I'd taken the walkie talkie as by the time we got down there would be another mile or so to get back to camp. We came down and were in an area I didn't recognise it wasn't Yosemite Lodge like it said! Well the Walkie Talkie worked and we got CT to come for us, it had taken him the same time to get down and do the shopping as it took us to walk down!
